Idols On the Charts - December 20, 2007

by Jeanne on December 20th, 2007

Here’s some info about American Idol’s presence on the charts as of yesterday, December 19, 2007 (from Entertainment Weekly).

As you may have figured out, ’tis the season to buy holiday albums so it can be tough to do well on the charts during this time of year.  Josh Groban, on the other hand, is slaughtering the competition with his new album "Noel."  I have to admit, it’s good…

Anyway, here’s the rundown for Idols on the digital charts (red for drops, green for gains):

  • Jordin Sparks single "Tattoo" is leading the pack, moving from #9 to #8 after selling 66,000 (an 11% jump, bumping her total to 567,000). Her other single, "No Air" increased in sales by 28% as well.
  • Chris Daughtry’s "Over You" falls just 0.3%.  "Home" vaults 151-120 thanks to a 31% increase (total of 1.17 million). "It’s Not Over" returns at 168 (totaling 1.53 million).
  • Katharine McPhee’s new Christmas single, "O Come All Ye Faithful," debuts at # 124 with nearly 10,000 downloads.
  • Carrie Underwood’s "So Small" drops 3% in sales (total of 415,000). "Before He Cheats" is up 13% (totaling 1.96 million).
  • Kellie Pickler’s "Santa Baby" makes its debut at 192 (total of 19,000).
  • Kelly Clarkson’s "My Grown Up Christmas List" is down 179-195, although its sales are up 2%.
  • Blake Lewis lost both of his chart entries from last week. "How Many Words" falls off from #143, while "Break Anotha" dropped from 144.

Well, it’s good news for some of them… right???  We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when all the holiday stuff settles down.

That’s okay if their albums aren’t selling. I’m sure they’re getting residules from the Idol karaoke machine that was voted best toy of 2007 in Money Magazine. These Idols have plenty of cash coming in, imagine all the kids who are going to buy this thing?! Check it out. http://www.techtogo.com

What makes you think the Idols get any of that money? TPTB probably rake in a fistful of it, though. The singers themselves just have to pray the Idol Tour is a big success.
