Is Jordin Sparks’ Album Off to a Slow Start?
I’m hearing all kinds of reports but I’m not saying anything for sure until I get an *official* report from a reputable source. All the same, I gotta talk about it. I’m hearing that Jordin Sparks‘ debut album is expected to come in second place to Alicia Keys’ "As I Am." Jordin’s album is expected to sell between 90,000 to 100,000 units which would make it the lowest debut for an American Idol winner ever.
I want to know if this is 100% true. Does anyone have a credible link?
Your thoughts???

honestly her album is awful. all the songs sound the same, and they are just soo boring. it was like the same song that was playing over and over and over again. and jordin is not as popular as taylor was by the way. i mean i like jordin, shes a cute girl, but her voice is not amazing or original and the songs are just not good. and megg, i understand you are a fan or jordins, but everyone I have been talking to about her album (ok, only 4 people but still) were bored with the album.

Currently Jordan’s albumis tracking lower than Carrie’s Carnival Ride, which has been out for several weeks.
I am not a musician or a critic, so I won’t judge her album, but the cover art made her look much older, I wonder if people don’t recognize her or if it makes her lose appeal to youngsters. I remember when I saw Kelly’s Breakaway cover art, I thought she looked very very young and the cover would appeal to parents looking for something for their kids for Christmas.
I think the music is not a big part of the idol sales for the first album. Jordan has fans, young fans (and some moremature fans as well, not to dismess anyone) and I wonder if limited money may be an issue.

I agree linda - the album is pure dreck. Appealing to the average 12 year old. Certainly no one with any musical taste would sit through this garbage. Serves AI right for pimping her. She will now be the sole owner of the worst AI winner ever!!!! LOL…….

I didn’t say the album is dreck, I have not heard anything but the released single. I believe it is aimed at a younger than normal AI crowd, that is all. I just don’t believe the cover art matches the intended audience.
Sheesh, so many spelling errors inthe first post. Too many to correct, just ignore.

I agree with Jean. Having a more youthful album cover would definitely increase sales. She looks like Mariah Carey in that photo for pete’s sake!

You know, I must say that I wasn’t impressed with Tattoo when it first came out but it grew on me, the album has good songs, but if she was to preform these songs as she did on Idol.. I wouldn’t vote for her as much as I did.. I’ve met Jordin, shes one of the sweetest people in the world, I think a sophomore album will be better, she will have more creative control over the 2nd album, no idol has any control over there first album, Kelly Clarkson’s first album wasn’t that great actually.. but her second album was the best.. the only Idol winner who did good with there first album was Carrie… Taylor Hick is a totally different kind of music compared to Jordin so I do not believe its fair to compare them. They marketed her wrong, I wish she would have lost.. so she could have did more with the album.. Like Blake, I look for his album to SORE over Jordin’s.. but everyone should still listen to Freeze.

i do agree about the album artwork - it doesn’t fit the songs. but i do like the songs, a lot. at first when i heard them, they sounded very similar but now they are all really different sounding to me. i love ‘em all but i’m not 100% crazzy about “young & in love” or “see my side”. but occasionally i do get in the mood to listen to them. i think my favorite song on the album (other than tattoo) is “worth the wait” - the bonus track. the song is very jordin to me and i like how she expressed herself in that song. :)
oh and, freeze is very good - i agree garry.
and i also agree about the “creative freedom” on the 1st album. carries was great and i can’t wait to hear jordin’s second with more songs hopefully like “worth the wait”

I actually love this album. I think it’s one of the best debuts by an idol. My favorite song is probably, “One Step At A Time.” Her vocals are great and the songs are catchy. (”Shy Boy” “No Air”) Some are absolutely beautiful. (”Freeze” “Permanent Monday” “God Loves Ugly” “Worth The Wait”) I like all of the songs aside from “This Is My Now.”
I don’t know about the cover though, it really doesn’t look like her. I honestly hoped she would’ve been smiling, the cover is odd for me. However, I love the picture on the back, as well as the ones inside.

This album is too plain. Non of the songs in this album impresses me. It is not going to sell well.
