Jason Castro Eliminated - Did He Care?

by Jeanne on May 8th, 2008

Jason Castro Eliminated from American Idol

Jason Castro was eliminated from season 7 of American Idol last night and I’ve read in a number of places that people think he never took the competition seriously and that he didn’t really try.  I don’t think I agree with that.  I think he cared about it a lot but in recent weeks, he seemed to have grown tired.  I think, and this is just my theory, that he either was overwhelmed or became weary with the themes and having to perform songs that were so different than who he is.

Do I think he should have won?  No (sorry!).  But I don’t think he deserves to be talked about like trash (I’ve even heard people say he has lice or fleas which is just mean spirited and very unlikely - I doubt the Idol staff would have someone with lice or fleas to be in hair and makeup with the other contestants).

All the same, here’s his elimination and final performance of “I Shot the Sheriff.”

I’m so glad he’s gone. He was definitely not on the same level of the remaining contestants and IMO he was not as good as Carly or Michael. I think they really got shafted but I’m sure they will get better record deals now so, I guess it works out.
I saw a news report last night where they were showing us in slow motion that Jason Castro was mouthing “Don’t Vote” on Tuesday night after his horrible 2nd performance and Ryan was saying what number to call to vote. Between that and Jason’s statement to Entertainment Tonight where he said “I’m ready to go home” just proves that he didn’t belong in this competition from the start. Personally I think they should pull him from the tour and replace him with someone more deserving. He is just a disappointment to the show. He stopped caring and trying and that is the total opposite of what the show is about.
    Glad he’s gone though.

that comment above is ridiculous. Whether u liked him or not, millions of people out there loved this guy and found him extremely talented. Bigger vocals dont necessarily mean better, he was a genuine artist that knew exactly how to get a song into people’s hearts. He came into this competition bright eyed full of promise and enthusiasm. But this show tore him down. Its NOT that he didnt care or that he doesnt want to make it, its because he was tired of the BS and he no longer wanted to be a part of it. You cant sit there and tell me this show hasnt treated him horribly. He WANTED to go out the way he did. Jason isnt stupid, he knew this show had an agenda. He knew no matter what he did they would tear him apart. I think he figured out the shows true colors from what paula did to him, without even giving him an apology. His performances were basically him telling those incompetent judges to F*** off. It was his way of saying “Here i’ll give u something to complain about B*tches”. He didnt fit into their cheesy pop star mold and that scared them. He was authentic and genuine with a style that was his own. They wouldnt know what to do with with a guy like him. The good thing is now he can have a career without the American Idol chains wrapped around his neck and make his fans happy doing things his way. He deserves mad props and i cant wait for him to out sell their typical cheesy little idol winner.

Cristy, GO GIRL. I couldn”t have said it better myself. Jason was the ONLY remaining contestant without previous experience. Now ALL tge innocence is gone as CLAY AIKEB has stated and is also the reason Clay refuses to watch anymore. No more average guy next door like Clay, Ruben and a few more. They are too polished. I don”t care who wins They are all the same..

I think Jason Castro was really great! Maybe his vocals weren’t as good as David Archuleta’s or David Cook’s? But you don’t have to have that diva’s voice to be a great artist. His style was just different… it was just his own, a simple but unique style that many loved. I loved to listen to him sing. It never mattered to me what the judges said about the song after, I just loved to hear him sing. There’s just something in his voice and his music that I love… something that wasn’t in the others’.
Well, maybe he didn’t win American Idol. But he did win–in his own special way. Go, Jason!

I feel bad that he went through suck a bad time. I think he really felt bad about getting the lyrics messed up. I think that even that he didn’t make it in American Idol doesn’t mean he’s not incredibly talented. He’s unique and different and he made the show alot more interesting. I think Jason Castro will go very far in life even if he didn’t make on stupid American Idol.

I love Jason and he has more talent than anyone except David Cook. Archie needs to go but not before fake Synosha. If she isn”t eliminited next, I will turn off the DVR. I can”t even look at that wantabe DIVA..Kim Locke REINCARNATED. YUK…

I think there are more than one way to sing a song. It doesn’t have to be belted out, and in most cases, the fact that Jason sang certain songs with his voice made the songs more touching and raw. I was horrified that he got crap for not belting out “Memory” which actually makes me tear up everytime I hear his studio version.
Out of all 24 that made this show this year, Jason’s CD is the only one I will be buying.
Furthermore, he DID care about this competition, but got overwhelmed near the end.

Britt thank you for saying that because u have the exact same mind set i do when it comes to jason. Not everyone gets him, but the ones that do, are incredibly touched by him. And u used the perfect word to describe him and his performances-raw. He came into this competition with no previous singing experience. He wasnt professionally trained and “polished” like the others. The only thing he brought with him was a passion for music and his genuine and beautiful soul but that was all he needed because that reflected in his performances and that means a heck of alot more to some people than hearing someone just belt out a song. I for one, cannot wait until he puts out a cd. I have a great feeling he will surpass the idol winner and then some. God bless u jason.
