Justin Timberlake Idol Basher
Justin Timberlake is doing some damage control after some pretty harsh comments he made towards American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks. Timberlake attacked the star’s singing ability and challenged his sexuality with some of his comments.
Maybe the ”out of context” part referred to Timberlake’s remarks about the difficulties of sudden fame: ”If he has any skeletons whatsoever; if, God forbid, he’s gay, and all these people in Mississippi who voted for him are like, ‘Oh, my God, I voted for a queer!’ It’s just too much pressure.” I’ll buy that he wasn’t actually trying to imply that Taylor is gay or has other skeletons; he just said it in a clumsy way that should have riled not only Hicks but the entire state of Mississippi.
In the long run I could really care less about what Justin Timberlake says or thinks, is he even popular? The last thing I can think of that I actually saw him in was his cameo in a Tiger Woods Xbox golf game. Is he a singer or something? I doubt we’d even know who he is if he hadn’t been the one that caused the “warddrobe malfunction” with Janet Jackson at the Superbowl.
The most impressive part of this entire story for me is Taylor’s reaction. He hasn’t had one. All this hubbub seems to have been coming from Taylor’s very strong fanbase, The Soul Patrol.
To his credit, Hicks himself has kept admirably silent about the whole affair. Still, someone must have pressured Timberlake into damage-control mode. Is the lesson here that you shouldn’t risk the wrath of the Soul Patrol, or that people who live in crass houses shouldn’t throw stones?
I’d imagine The Soul Patrol is much stronger than whatever it is you would call Justin’s fans. Seems like a good reason for Justin to be jealous.

[…] My last post about Justin Timberlake bashing Taylor’s ability to actually sing got me to thinking. What if there were a version of American Idol for existing pop-stars who’ve declined a bit in their popularity scores? […]
