Katharine McPhee Sings "Somewhere" on The View
November 21, 2008 by Jeanne
Did you see Katharine McPhee on The View earlier this week with David Foster? She performed "Somewhere" and, well, I didn’t love it. I didn’t exactly *hate* it but I just found it all a little over-the-top and a bit all over the place. I like Katharine (I really liked her single "Over It" – still can’t understand why many people complained about it) but I think she can be a little hammy at times. Her voice can really border on annoying if she’s not careful. Anyway, judge for yourselves:
You can also pick up a copy of David Foster and Friends which features Katharine McPhee and, I believe, Michael Johns (from season 7).

Wrong song, she sang somewhere from West Side Story not SOTR from Oz. Well if you got the song title that wrong, I question if you actually listened to her.
Hi Jeanne….Your credentials as a music critic are in serious doubt….especially when you don’t seem to know the difference between Somewhere Over the Rainbow and just Somewhere!
I think you’re also mistaking passion for “hammy” and “over the top”!
And what is “all over the place”?That might actually define your review!
The song was Somewhere and not Somewhere over the rainbow! And she was superb in my opinion!!
i think she’s so fantastic with that song!!!
TRULY diva!!!
FYI the song title is Somewhere…..
Katharine is amazing, there is really much more to say than that, other than everybody has an opinion. Yours would probably be taken more seriously if you even knew what song you were talking about, maybe/maybe not, who knows.
I had someone temping for me on this site. I apologize.
For what it’s worth, I agree that her singing was not stellar here.
I’m not a fan of this song, Somewhere, but Ms McPhee did what she could with it. Her voice is pretty spectacular when she is singing the right material and is in top voice.
Having earlier heard the Foster & Friends CD version (which was also a live recording) I’d say this version, at The View, wasn’t her best outing.
I never liked her voice. There were many singers on that season of Idol that were much better. I know David Foster will work his tail off to try to create another pop star, something he’s excellent at doing. Her singing is on and off and she just doesn’t have that “it” factor that excites and I don’t know why because she is beautiful. Just no charisma whatsoever and so so voice.
that’s probably one of my favorite performances of hers. awesome!
Beg to differ,Cookie!
Kat has the”IT” factor in spades!!
She has an exceptional voice……one only has to read the multitude of rave reviews from the 12,000 viewers of the HitMan Somewhere on youtube to learn that most listeners do appreciate a great singer!!
To whoever said she has “no charisma”—–wow, you couldn’t be more wrong. She’s a beautiful person and a beautiful singer, and she treats her fans better than any celeb I know.
This was a special performance.
