Kellie Pickler Likes the Northern Life
June 22, 2007 by Jeanne

So, it has happened – American Idol season 5 contestant, Kellie Pickler, has travelled to Canada (for the first time) to meet her boyfriend, NHL Player Jordin Tootoo’s, parents up in Rankin Inlet. For those of you who do not know much about Rankin Inlet, I’ll just tell you that it is extremely small, very basic and Jordin is the town hero. She’s been spending time with Jordin and his family mostly at their cabin where Kellie said (via a CBC interview) that “[there's] no cellphone service here, so that’s a big plus. No one probably knows what a cellphone is here, do they? I’ve had different types of food that I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I’d try … raw caribou and whale blubber. You’ve got to salt everything.”
Kellie said that she loves our Ketchup flavored potato chips but her favourite part of the trip has been the people.
“I’ve never felt so welcome anywhere like I have here. As soon as I got off the plane, everyone was waiting for me at the airport, just to welcome me to the community. Everyone’s been so nice.”
Jordin was happy to bring Kellie to his hometown, telling CBC that “It’s great to have people from other parts of the world come and experience what I do when I come home.”
I’m happy to hear that she went there and that she liked it because it says a lot about how she feels about Jordin and the strength of her character. I don’t even know if I could handle a week in Rankin Inlet and I’m Canadian!
