Live Blogging American Music Awards Tonight!
November 18, 2007 by Jeanne
I will be doing a live blog of the 2007 American Music Awards tonight and I’ll be adding videos and pictures a little later in the evening.
I love the AMAs. They aren’t what they used to be but I still like the performances.
Opening Act
So, Fergie and will.i.am along with Nicole Scherzinger are opening the awards and it is really mediocre at best. I’m sorry, ya’ll. Fergie sounded bad, will.i.am sounded decent but Nicole didn’t sound good to me either. Was this the best opening they could plan? Ugh….
They just announced a million people (lol) who will be on tonight.
Jimmy Kimmel is hosting for the 4th time and he’s talking about the fact that he is on "strike" as a member of the Writers Guild and how he couldn’t write jokes. He is about to do the Soulja Boy. He just took Kellie Pickler out of the audience to help him do the dance. Now he’s got Jordin Sparks!!! It’s a Kimmel Idol extravaganza! Soulja Boy came on stage to help them out. How cute!

Award #1 -Breakthrough Artist
Carrie Underwood comes on stage to announce the nominees – "Daughtry," "Plain White Tees" and "Robin Thicke."
The award goes to Daughtry!!!!
———————-Commercial break—————————-
Award #2 – Country Band/Duo/Group
James Blunt and Christina Applegate announced the nominees: Big & Rich, Rascal Flatts and Brooks and Dunn.
The winner is Rascal Flatts!!!!
————
One Republic announces Avril Lavigne who performs "Hot." It sounds basically like her normal performances.
Rascal Flatts performs. I’m not sure of the song title. Please tell me if you know.
———————-Commercial break—————————-
Ryan Seacrest announces Maroon 5 who peform. I do not like this song. It could grow on me but it sounds like "I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke" in some places with a bit of "Every Breath You Take" here and there COMBINED with a typical Maroon 5 song. Weird…
————
Award #3 – Soul/R&B Male
Ashanti announces nominees – Akon, Ne-Yo and T-Pain.
The Winner is Akon! T-Pain came up with him and he basically stole the show. Hilarious!
Footage of some of the greatest AMA Moments.
———————–Commercial Break———————————-
Jordin Sparks announces the Jonas Brothers. The brother in the middle fell and slid and my 10-year-old son almost peed himself screaming and laughing. You know how little boys can be about boy bands. LOL. Okay, we’ve all recovered now. Okay, I can see how these guys can be popular with the Disney channel crowds. They’re cute. Oh no! Two girls got on stage and they’re being dragged off.
————
Award #4 – Pop/Rock Male
Fabulous and Taylor Swift announce the nominees – Akon, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake.
The winner is Justin Timberlake!
Jimmy Kimmel jokes about the Jonas Brothers falling, then Kid Rock showed up and told Jimmy to get out of his seat. He was sitting next to Celine Dion. Then they broke into a mock fight to make fun of the fight Kid Rock had with Tommy Lee at the VMAs last month, lol.
———————Commercial Break—————————-
Award #5 – Soundtrack Album
Matt Dallas and Kellie Pickler announced the nominees – Dreamgirls, Hairspray and High School Musical 2.
The Winner is High School Musical 2!!!
Taye Diggs announces Rihanna feat. Ne-Yo.
———————Commercial Break—————————-
Award # 6 – Country Female
Tyler Lee and Justin Chambers announce the nominees – Martina McBride, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.
The winner is Carrie Underwood!!!!
Lee and Chambers announce "Irreplaceable" as performed Sugarland. Okay, it’s not so bad but the lead singer looks kinda gross.
Uh oh, here comes Queen B – Beyoncé is singing along with the country arrangement!!!! This is a bit of a nightmare, sorry. I like it but, musically, it’s…
————
Award #7 – Adult Comtemporary
Solange Knowles, Life Jennings Kirk Franklin announces the nominees -John Mayer, Norah Jones and Daughtry.
Daughtry wins!!!!!
More AMA memorable moments!
——–——————Commercial Break———————————————
Josh Groban announces Celine Dion who sings her new song "Taking Chances" which went okay, I guess. She’s been in Vegas for so long, I wonder if she feels a little weird singing a "new" song and performing outside of Caesar’s Palace but I digress…
————
Lenny Kravitz performs.
Award #8 – Soul/R&B Album
Natasha Bedingfield and Sean Kingston announce the nominees - Beyoncé, R. Kelly and Justin Timberlake.
The Winner is Justin Timberlake!
————————-Commerical Break—————————–
Melanie Brown (of the Spice Girls), Jennie Garth and their fellow cast member on Dancing with the Stars announce Chris Brown. He performed "Kiss, Kiss" and, of course, there was LOTS of dancing! Oh – here comes T-Pain!
————
Award #9 – TMobile’s Text In Award
Miley Cyrus announced the nominees – Akon, Daughty, Fergie, Norah Jones and Carrie Underwood.
The Winner is Carrie Underwood!!!!
————————-Commerical Break—————————–
Award #10 – Pop/Rock Album
Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale – Daughtry ("Daughtry"), Linkin Park ("Minutes to Midnight") and Justin Timberlake ("FutureSex/LoveSounds").
The Winner is Daughtry!!!!! I was sure JT was gonna win!
————
Blair Underwood announces Alicia Keys. She performs "No One." Everything turned all reggae and I thought it was good but it really had nothing to do with her song. Well, at least I was entertained.
————
Beyoncé was sitting in the front row with her father, Mathew Knowles, and Jimmy Kimmel cracked a joke about him being with her wherever she goes and announced Duran Duran.
I used to love this group and something traumatic happened when I met them as a child and I began to really dislike them. The lead singer has some really tight pants and he has (viewer discretion advised)… a male camel toe. Gross.
————
Awards #11 – Country Album
Slash and Scott Weyland announce the nominees – Tim McGraw ("Let It Go"), Rascall Flatts ("Me and My Gang") and Carrie Underwood ("Some Hearts").
Carrie Underwood Wins!!!!!
————
Award #12 – International Artist Award
Usher recognizes the loss of Kanye West’s mother and wishes him strength as he gets through this difficult time.
Touching tribute to Beyoncé. I cannot even keep up with the stats and figures they are presenting but they are IMPRESSIVE!!!! I knew she was big but I didn’t know she was this big! Congrats, Beyoncé!
———————Commercial Break——————————
Snoop Dogg introduces Mary J. Blige.
Award #13 – Rap/Hip-Hop/Band/Duo/Group
Kid Rock announces nominees – Bone Thugs in Harmony, Pretty Ricky and Shop Boyz.
The Winner is Bone Thugs!!!!!
———————Commercial Break——————————
Amanda Bynes presents her "Hairspray" co-star, Queen Latifah. She is looking good and she sounds great! Her hair is fabulous! I think that was the best vocal performance of the night.
Award #14 – Soul/R&B Female
Akon announces the nominees – Beyoncé, Fantasia and Rihanna.
The Winner is Rihanna!!!!!
———————Commercial Break——————————
Daughtry performs an acoustic version of, you guessed it, "Home."
Award #15 – Pop/Rock Female
Gene Simmons announces the nominees – Beyoncé, Fergie and Avril Lavigne.
The winner is Fergie?!?!?!?!? WOW! I cannot believe it! She beat out Bey and Avril? Wow…

Fergie is a studio created wonder who needs to lipsync. I do not enjoy watching her at all. I do not enjoy her lyrics which do nothing to reflect positively on woman. Yeah, I am that square.
I see Daughtry won something.
TAR finally came on, so I am going there.
What’s TAR?
I know, Fergie is ridiculous!
The Amazing Race!!!! Nevermind. I love that show. If that’s what you meant, I’m glad to know we have something else in common, lol. I’m recording it for later. What else do you watch?
UMM, since this year it was all fan voted, Why is it a suprise that Idol fans voted thiers as winners? I mean I bet they all win, Idol fans are experts at spamming polls. Is it really all that much of an industry award anymore? or is there any REAL value in the award anymore?
Ew at DAUGHTRY winning stuff, but it sure has been an idol filled show so far, lol.
Oh I was busting up laughing when that kid fell over on stage. Can’t blame your son.
Beyonce should be SLAPPED for letting them butcher her song like that!!! My ears still havent recovered.
I don’t think the fans voted on all the awards every year, is this new?
My question is – Do the band members get to keep a copy of the award even if they did not record the album that won or is there only one award and Daughtry rightfully gets to keep it?
The American music awards have become less than mediocre at best. Are these honestly the best performers in America? It seems to be only a couple of well knowns with a bunch of average acts. What happened to rock and roll? If the corporate jerks would stop controlling what the nation sees and hears we would honestly have much more talented and exciting bands and performers to choose from, until we make that happen the music scene is dead. Unless you like mediocre rap music that is…
Sasha – Are you sure this was all fan voted? I thought it was just the T-Mobile thing. If fans voted, though, who voted for Fergie. This big girl almost cried when she won, lol.
Kim – My son was comforted by your words, ha ha. That Beyoncé duet was definitely interesting… my ears, my ears!
Jean – I think the band members each get one. I *think.* I thought Chris could have been a little more generous with the mic, though. He was like “uh, I’ve got nothing else to say so, here, you guys talk now.” LOL!!!!
Davey – I have to say that most of tonight was, indeed, mediocre. I cannot get over that opening act. Really. It was atrocious.
50% of every band and performer on the radio and on tonights American music awards show is a studio created wonder. They have alot of their songs written for them buy professional composers, even their looks are created by people who know what sells and what the music buying community spends money on. Not because it’s good music, but because it’s crammed down their throats and there is not much to choose from if you only listen to the radio and watch television. Everything today is created with this dumb wanna be ghetto gangster attitude, and the huge corporation record companies are just using everyone like rats in a cage. They play it on the radio or MTV and you buy it, no problem every time. Stop buying average talent and it will have to get better. : )
The voting for these awards was posted on the Idol Message boards weeks ago, just after the nominations. ALL awards were internet voted this year. Which is why idols won, I didn’t vote because I’m not a fan of any of them, but it kind of made the whole thing a Huge JOKE. But then after seeing what a mediocre effort that was and how bad the music indusrty really is, I guess it’s not a suprise.
i dont think carrie underwood winning was at all solely because of idol fans. perhaps daughtry is another story.
