Live Blogging - Idol Gives Back Again!
I’m actually a little bit under the weather so I’m sorry I haven’t been updating a lot these past few days (plus, I was away at the Juno Awards).
I’m pretty excited for tonight’s Idol Gives Back episode on American Idol. I hope you are too!
Wow! Kylie Minogue looks amazing but Maria Shriver… yeah. She reminds me of Skeletor from He-Man. I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be mean - just keeping it real. I like her, though. Ben Stiller is hilarious! I wish he had really recorded a Whitney Houston cover album!
Jennifer Connelly is in a piece now about clean water which, of course, is reminding me of her roles in Blood Diamond and Dark Water, lol. Not funny at all, though. I can’t imagine having to drink that water. Please donate :)
Snoop Dogg is performing now. I love the choir!
More after the jump!
Uhhh, I don’t follow basketball very much anymore. What’s on Kobe Bryant’s face?
Great. Triple H is going to terrify everyone into donating money, lol…
Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul traveled to Goshen School which is only about 180 miles from the Idol studios and the average income is just under $9000 a year! Oh my goodness. This is so sad.
Carrie Underwood is working with Mike from Desperate Housewives and Teri Hatcher came in (the character’s on-screen girlfriend) and Teri said “if you’re going to steal my man, I’m going to steal your song.” So here she is singing “Before He Cheats” and it’s not as bad as I was expecting. What a brave soul! LOL. This is a great number. So many stars are playing instruments. I think I saw Bachelor Bob singing backup!
Mary Murphy is… screaming. Big surprise! I love her on So You Think You Can Dance. She said she won’t stop screaming until you donate (there’s Nigel Lythgoe begging us to call). Please call!!!
Uh oh. It’s the Jonas Brothers and they are asking for money! Okay, they are asking people to donate money. My family is laughing because Nick is basically not moving at all, lol.
Billy Crystal just introduced Miley Cyrus and they are doing and how neither of them know who the other is. Hilarious! Here comes a Miley Cyrus performance! Get ready Disney fans! Okay, I hate to admit it but my husband and I actually watch Hannah Montana on PVR/TiVo at bedtime. It’s funny, okay?
Ha ha! The contestants (including the eliminated Chikezie) are on the phone lines with callers.
Bono is in Africa where he visits a little girl, Sophia, who is a 14-year-old orphan with HIV. She asks us to continue watching this show and to help her. She’s the same age as one of my daughters and it’s heartbreaking. The volunteer who is taking care of Sophia has lost three children to AIDS. How absolutely devastating! What courage! We need more people like her in this world.
Julianne Moore has absolutely flawless skin. It almost distracted me from what she was saying!
Fergie and John Legend are performing “Finally” together and it’s pretty good. I’m not a huge fan of Fergie’s, though, for a million reasons so don’t ask.
w00t!!!!! It’s Heart and they are performing “Barricuda” which I absolutely love playing on Guitar Hero! These women are going to be great until they can’t perform any more. Soooo good. Uh oh, here comes Fergie and she’s a great fit with Heart, I hate to admit, lol. Okay, holy crap. Girlfriend just did two flips with the flipping microphone in her hand!
John Cena is now asking for cash.
Adam Sandler says his dog just donated money, lol!
Ooooh! Eli and Peyton Manning! Oh no. They are talking to kids who say all kinds of horror during Hurricane Katrina. How painful. No one should have to see what they are describing.
David Beckham and Victoria Beckham are also asking people to donate and I am not even sure I understand that last thing she said. Oh well. They are still fabulous (especially that delicious David!).
Bono is talking to orphans now about how they keep the memory of their parents alive. Annie Lennox is in South Africa where they are talking to a family of little boys (the eldest is 15) who have lost every family member they had to AIDS. The boys are going to be tested for HIV. Thank goodness they are all negative for the virus! Oh, Annie is so emotional and I can’t hold my own tears anymore either.
Kiefer Sutherland has asked for donations too. Go Canadians!
Speaking of Canadians, there’s Celine Dion in Africa!
Jimmy Kimmel just walked out and he’s roasting Simon Cowell. LOL. Ooh, I see Jordin Sparks behind Simon and she’s cracking up!
Simon is doing a segment about the lack of healthcare in the United States. I’m really happy to see this included in this special. It’s a devastating aspect of American life.
Simon just told Jimmy Kimmel how much he loves the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He’s just introduced Carrie Underwood who is singing one of my favorite George Michael songs “Praying for Time.” I’m not sure I loved it and it got a little out of sync with the music a few times but it’s a good song choice. It makes me cry every time.
Whoopi Goldberg is soliciting donations now. I love her :) Ellen Degeneres, who was was supposed to co-host, looks great.
Gloria Estefan is performing “Get on Your Feet” and I see some contestants from So You think You Can Dance (go Pasha and Dmitri) and is that Sheila E on the drums?
Uh oh, here comes Sarah Silverman! She’s hilarious. If you love her, visit Sarah Silverman Online which is written by one of my own fave bloggers, Tall Freak.
Forrest Whitaker is talking to a mother whose baby girl is in the hospital in serious condition with malaria. It is horrifying to know that something as simple as a net and a pill could prevent this sweet baby from suffering. Give big if you can!
British prime minister Gordon Brown has pledged approximately 200 million dollars.
Keith Urban just appeared without pregnant wife Nicole Kidman.
Reese Witherspoon has just come out on the stage to solicit money for the Children’s Defence Fund in support of education. She met someone who has a friend whose 4-year-old son shot himself in the head.
The Idol contestants are singing “Seasons of Love” from the Broadway musical Rent. It sounds great! I love hearing them doing their little solo parts one after another. You really get to compare their voices and appreciate their diversity. Kinda sucks that some of them got such tiny parts, though.
Dane Cook makes me laugh every time I see him. He just introduced Alicia Keys journey across Africa. One grandmother takes care of her 8 grandchildren who were orphaned by AIDS.
Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale were just on asking for donations and appropriately, their fellow Disney star, Miley Cyrus, has just come out to perform AGAIN. Miley also visited some at-risk children who were part of a successful literacy program.
Robin Williams is making some off-color jokes. Funny, though :)
Rob Schneider, followed by Tyra Banks, appeared soliciting donations.
Brad Pitt talked about his housing program to help Hurricane Katrina survivors
Daughtry performed and visited with children in Africa and it was quite touching. I love Daughtry.
Mariah Carey is performing “Fly Like a Bird” and like Gloria Estefan and Carrie Underwood earlier, she is out of sync with the music. I think it’s an audio issue.
Remember to tune in tomorrow for the RESULTS SHOW!!!

I love you Jeanne! I hope you are feeling better mama :)
I would like to know how everyone enjoyed the show? Personally I thought last year was better.
Jeanne - I said the same thing about Kobe’s face…what was that? Did his wife punch him in the face with that big rock on her finger that he gave her after he cheated on her? LOL
Teri Hatcher - this chick was horrible. Sorry but she can not sing for…nothing. Yikes! That was so painful! And then the screaming lady right after that brutal beating she gave Carrie’s song! Geez that did it for me.
Jeanne - You didn’t mention anything about Snoop Dogg performing the opening act. I was curious of your thoughts on that one. I have a feeling my opinion may spark some controversy, so I would really like to hear your thoughts first :)
Love the Manning brothers….GO GIANTS way to win a super bowl-ha ha
Jeanne I think us loving the Heart performance really shows our age..lol..it was the best for me with the last song the idols sang.
The story Annie did was so sad. I felt so bad for those boys. My heart goes out to them for real. I just really would like to see some follow up with this particular family. I mean b/c what if someone wanted their money to go specifically to those boys to help them and to get them out of that situation they are in? I would like to see some follow up with the family in NY that were all ill with Lupus, R. arthritis and I don’t remember what was wrong with the little one.
The Govenators wife-yikes! Awesome programs she is supporting though. I myself am a Habitat For Humanity Volunteer :)
I liked Paula’s dress, she looked good. I think Simon wore the exact same thing last year, lol Randy- eh

You know I did call Jeanne and was disappointed when the girl on the other line (Elaine) did not know who Syesha was…blower!
The So You Think You Can Dance-dancers performed in the begining, it was good and it was funny when Ryan said he can do that! Ha then he was all out of breath from dancing…lol…dork. :)
Oh and what aout the part when Kristy hands Ryan the phone saying that the girl on the other end (Amy) wants him to blow her a kiss in the camera for $100! LOL then he did and said that’s not Amy its a dude…lol…oh Ryan
Ciao from Miami
