His American Idol performances were dynamic, with the proper tongue-in-cheek cheesiness for the show. He’s since displayed acting chops on Broadway (The Wedding Singer) and soaps (The Bold and the Beautiful). But on Constantine, Constantine Maroulis can’t convert that charm into anything notable, or even listenable. Not quite rock, not quite soul, and derivative throughout, these songs showcase his bombastic voice with all the subtlety of an air-raid siren…and none of the excitement. Duck and cover. D+

He’s creepy no matter what his 50 die hard over 40 chubbies say. Did you see him on Mike and Juliett when they showed who was in the audience. Was anyone younger than 40 and did anyone weigh less than 250? Does anyone you is young, hip and attractive like the guy? I didn’t think so.

Cuddly – thank you for those reviews! It is fans/readers like you that make it clear that Constantine has real fans. I love the fact that the first one talks about how listening to the cd is like hitting shuffle on an iPod – the tracks have that much variety! Ozzy – that was sooooo nice! I do believe that it makes things harder for an artist when fans aren’t honest. I love hockey and when my team messes up, I don’t make excuses for them – it’s how they grow, right? I got so much slack for loving Constantine during the competition – his elimination was actually the very first one that made me cry (and cry and cry). My husband was thoroughly grossed out but I didn’t care and I don’t care now!!!

Yes, there are some “spirited” fans who cross my path all the time. Fortunately, you seem relatively sane so you don’t need to apologize, lol.

Thanks for the link – I think I’m Constantine reviewed-out. I swear I have never been so tired of reading reviews, especially since most of them just aren’t good for Con. I laughed when you said that the “fan review” leaned toward the negative side. I’m laughing now, actually. Go figure!

Lola – thanks for your actual “review.” When I get the album, I will pay extra attention to “Child, You’re the Revolution” (I like the name!). You are right – every artist gets good and bad reviews but it doesn’t mean fans need to feel threatened, nor does it mean the artist should assume the fetal position and cry over their failed career. A couple of rockers. Some pop tunes. A few ballads, something with Latin flavor and lots of heartbreak. It sounds like . . . well, an average season’s repertoire for an “American Idol” finalist. And so it is with season-four candidate Constantine Mouralis’ debut, a stylistic survey that slides the star of Broadway’s “The Wedding Singer” into the multiformated turf of a Maroon 5 or Rob Thomas. The former, in fact, seems something of a model for the hooky “Several Thousand,” while Constantine (who wrote three tracks here) has a little Ricky Martin on the brain for “Girl Like You,” Bon Jovi for “Heaven Help the Lonely” and a compelling combo of the Strokes and Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life” on “I Thought It Was Something.” This is an indie release, so don’t expect Kelly Clarkson- or Carrie Underwood-style sales, but Constantine is on the right track toward making his mark in the biz.—Gary Graff

For its contestants, “American Idol” is an exercise in adapting to disparate styles (Mandisa giving country a go). On his independently released debut disc, Season 4 finalist and recent “Bold & the Beautiful” star Constantine Maroulis illustrates his ability as a musical chameleon. Aside from his hearty vocals, “Constantine” is like hitting shuffle on your iPod and letting it ride. There’s Marc Anthony next to Velvet Revolver, the Strokes, the lazy shuffle of Sublime, and Hall & Oates. It’s not that he doesn’t do each style well. His version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch’s “Midnight Radio” is brilliant and moving. It’s just difficult to get a feel for his true style and personality. — courtney devores

Let me personally apologize for the crazed fans who attacked you. We certainly can be …..viscious. No doubt about that!

The second was by a fan and it leaned towards negative. Go figure? Lol! I like the cd. Its not a masterpiece but Con fans understand why he choose the songs he did. Thanks for linking to GTS, we appreciate it
