Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Amberly Thiessen "Redemption Song"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (16)

Amberly Thiessen sang “Redemption Song” and it was really good.  I felt like she started out with a lot of emotion (it waned a bit towards the end for me) which really helped the performance.

Zack said that she reminds him of the ’60s in so many ways and that it was phenomenal.  Jake said that what she did with it put her back where they want her.  Sass said it was so appealing - it was almost like a lullaby.  Farley said that she did a great job communicating the meaning of the song.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Mookie Morris "I Feel Good"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (14)

Mookie Morris sang “I Feel Good” and I wonder about the song choice.  I actually really hate when people do this song since it’s really hard to capture the grit and energy that James Brown brought to his performances.  I really hope it wasn’t a costly mistake since Mookie was in the bottom last week. I liked that he worked the crowd, though.

Farley said that he liked his use of the space and that it was a good job.  Zack thought it was really cool.  Jake said he made the performance count and left it all on the stage.  Sass said that for a shy guy, he just kicked the door right open.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Drew Wright "No Rain"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (12)

Drew Wright sang “No Rain” and I think it was pretty good, actually.  I felt like he made an effort to be as quirky as the song but I didn’t particularly love the arrangement.  I like him, though :)

Sass said that DW did it again and that she loved it.  Farley said that he’s obviously to feedback listening since he’s being more animated.  Zack said that he wishes there was more groove to the arrangement but that he did a great job vocally.  Jake said it was great that he came out and worked the stage and that he did a really admirable job.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Katherine St. Laurent "Move Over"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (10)

Katherine St. Laurent sang “Move Over” and I thought it was one of her better performances.  It was a bit boring but it was vocally good.  She looked beautiful, though.

Jake said that most of the notes were good but that he didn’t feel that she was in the moment.  Sass said it was a brave effort and that she looks gorgeous.  Farley said that, given her age, she should ask people about the meaning of songs so that she can emote appropriately.  Zack said her vocal was fantastic but she needs experience.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Sebastian Pigott "Love Me"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (8)

Sebastian Pigott sang “Love Me” and, again, he went for the “sex symbol” type of performance.  He had some vocal issues but he was entertaining.  It was definitely one of his weaker performances, in my opinion.

Zack said that he looks great but the vocals weren’t good.  Jake said he sounded out of tune off the top and doesn’t think the vocal was that strong.  Sass said it was out of tune but that he looks good.  Farley said that he isn’t singing well but that he is a superstar.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Earl Stevenson "Light My Fire"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (6)

Earl Stevenson sang “Light My Fire” (one of my favorite songs!) and I thought it was funky and cool.  There is no one in the world like Earl, to me, and I love him for it.  That was hot and so, sooooo weird.

Farley said that choosing that song was beyond appropriate.  Zack said he was a little worried at first but that it was killer.  Jake said that, tonight, he finally proved how much he deserves to be here.  Sass said that it was awesome.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Mitch MacDonald "Angel Eyes"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (4)

Mitch MacDonald sang “Angel Eyes” and it was okay.  I thought he had some pitch issues and I wish that, with all the songs in the world, he had picked something else.  His guitar-playing was good, though :)

Sass said that Jeff Healey would have been happy with that performance.  Farley said it started rough but that he reigned it in.  Zack said that he has a unique voice but that tonight he found it uniquely annoying (me too).  Jake said that he didn’t do much with the arrangement but the fact that his voice is so unique turned things around for him.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 9 - Theo Tams "No Woman No Cry"

Canadian Idol 2008 Top 9 (2)

Theo Tams sang “No Woman, No Cry” (while sporting a brand new haircut) and I think it was a great choice for his voice.  Every week he just seems to get better and better.  He really has unbelievable talent.  I just loved the performance.

Jake said that getting out from behind the piano was a smart move because it was a great vocal performance.  Sass said he did a really good job.  Farley said that he’s glad he interpreted the song the way he did.  Zack said he wanted him to stand up earlier (he was on a stool for the first part of the song) but said it was his best performance and that he looks amazing on camera.

Jennifer Hudson Performs on Good Morning America - Video

jennifer-hudson-gma-5Former American Idol finalist, Jennifer Hudson, was on Good Morning America this morning and she looked great (hey - I may not have personally chosen that dress or shoes but I respect her style).  The Oscar winner performed her new song, “Spotlight” and, of course, she did a great job.

Since Jennifer “does it all,” GMA host, Diane Sawyer asked if there was anything that still made her nervous (I was wondering the same thing!).  She replied by saying that acting is the newest thing she’s tried to take on so, because it’s still so new, that is what she finds the most challenging.  Here are some pictures:

Her album drops on September 30, 2008.  Watch her performance here:

Jordin Sparks Helps Kids Go Back To School

Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XIV - Arrivals
Image details: Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night XIV - Arrivals served by picapp.com

As if squeaky-clean American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, didn’t seem sweet enough, she’s now teamed up with Staples and DoSomething.org to help kids get back-to-school supplies.  It’s great because this time of year can be so expensive for parents and this is a great way to give back to the community.  For more information on the program, click here.
