Mookie Morris Eliminated from Canadian Idol!

Canadian Idol Results CTV_2

I can’t even begin to explain how disappointed I am with tonight’s Canadian Idol results show.  Mookie Morris was sent home and I just don’t understand how that happened.  He has got to be one of the most talented people to ever be on the show, in my opinion, so I’m truly shocked and devastated.  I like everyone in the Top 5 but I really thought it was Mitch MacDonald’s time to go home.

Abdul and Seacrest at 2008 Alma Awards

The 2008 ALMA Awards - Backstage

American Idol stars, Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest, attended the 2008 Alma Awards in Pasadena, California.  Does Paula look like she’s lost a little weight to anyone?  She’s awfully thin but she looks beautiful.

Katharine McPhee at House Bunny Screening

Columbia Picture's Screening Of "The House Bunny"

American Idol season 5 runner-up, Katharine McPhee, was photographed at a special VIP screening of her new movie House Bunny which co-stars Anna Faris and Rumer Willis.  If you are interested, I put up video of her talking about her role in the film (watch it here).

What do you think?  Are you going to see the movie?  I haven’t decided if I’m going to actually see it in the theater or if I will wait for DVD (probably the latter).

Canadian Idol 6 Top 5 Performances!

Canadian Idol Top 5 Season 6

Tonight, the Top 5 contestants on Canadian Idol will be singing the music of The Beatles.  What do you think of the people that are left?  Leave me a comment and tell me what you think of Mookie Morris, Mitch MacDonald, Theo Tams, Drew Wright and Earl Stevenson?

I’m actually pretty happy with the Top 5 and am really torn between Mookie, Earl and Theo.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 5 - Earl Stevenson

Earl Stevenson sang “A Little Help From My Friends” (the Joe Cocker version that is most associated with The Wonder Years television show) and it was predictably good.  I love that it was just what you would expect from an “Earl Show” and he definitely got really into it.  I really liked it a lot.

Jake said that the band was awesome and said that Earl was spectacular.  Sass said she felt like she was transported into the “World of Earl.”  Farley said that he did them proud (judges picked the song).  Zack said that he made the song mean something and that, in this case, less was more.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 5 - Mookie Morris

Mookie Morris sang “Come Together” and his pronunciation had me on the floor!  I love this kid.  He is so unique.  I just adore him.  I liked it a lot better than Carly Smithson’s version earlier this year on American Idol (I did like that a lot too, though).

Sass was one big jumbo pot of “mmm, mmm good.”  Farley said that everyone is clearly ready for the music industry.  Zach said that he really captured the old blues, soul, funk of that song and that it was the best version he’s ever heard.  Jake said that Mookie reinvented the song and that it was a great arrangement.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 5 - Theo Tams

Theo Tams sang “The Long and Winding Road” and he brought a softness to it that I haven’t actually heard before.  He didn’t really do too much with the arrangement but it was warm and tender and it’s hard to argue with that.  It’s a little tough to get David Archuleta’s version out of my head, though.

Farley said that Theo is awesome.  Zack said that he made strong choices in the arrangements and said that he’s not sure they’ve ever had a male on the show who could sing that way.  Jake said that he changed the song enough to make it his own but still remained true to it.  Sass said that he showed strength, courage, melody and purity.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 5 - Mitch MacDonald

Mitch MacDonald sang “In My Life” and I thought the arrangement beautiful (was better than his singing was).  I just find Mitch’s voice really annoying and whiny sometimes.  That was toned down a lot in this song but I felt that, at the same time, he struggled a bit with being inkey.  I did love how vulnerable he allowed himself to be, though.

Zack thanked him for a good performance and said he was adorable (lol).  Jake said that tonight’s show is one of his favorites and that it was a fantastic performance.  Sass thought that was his best vocal performance so far.  Farley said that he handled the “nakedness” of the song really well.

Canadian Idol 6 Top 5 - Drew Wright

Drew Wright sang “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and his voice always surprises me!  For the first time, I felt moved by Drew tonight.  I felt like he AND his guitar were weeping and performing on the Idol stage tonight and I loved it.

Jake said that he just reinvented that song.  Sass said that she loved his lead guitar faces.  Farley said it was fantastic and Zack said that it was heartfelt, honest and that he truly believed him.
