UGH!!!! I cannot believe I was out of town for this!!!! I love Queen and would have liked to have watched this when it first aired
Brian May and Roger Taylor thrilled Queen fans on Wednesday night when they joined the cast of “We Will Rock You” at Toronto’s Canon Theatre.
The two remaining members of the legendary rock band – vocalist Freddie Mercury died in 1991 at the age of 45 and bassist John Deacon left the group in the late ‘90s – appeared on stage during “Bohemian Rhapsody.” They were then joined by the seven remaining competitors from Canadian Idol for a performance of “The Show Must Go On.”
Earlier in the day, May, 60, and Taylor, 58, taped workshop sessions with each of the Idol hopefuls for Monday’s episode.
“Roger and I were both surprised,” May said of the finalists. “They’re wonderful artists. I actually have to tell you that I have a different feeling about the Idol thing after this. Perhaps things are evolving more towards the singer/songwriters and the really talented people who really should be on TV. God bless them.”
On Thursday, May was spotted having lunch at the members-only Spoke Club.
The competitors will perform Queen songs including “We Are the Champions,” “I Want to Break Free,” and “Under Pressure” on Monday’s episode. The following night, they will also be joined by We Will Rock You star Yvan Pedneault for a medley of Queen hits.
Canadian Idol airs on CTV. We Will Rock You, which features former Idols Erica Peck and Danny Balkwill, is running in Toronto until the end of September.
