Sanjaya Malakar – VOTE HIM OFF!

March 15, 2007 by Jason

Sanjaya Should Be Waving Buh-bye
Can someone please tell me what in this performance is worthy of him still being on the show after this week? He should be waving good-bye to America standing next to Ryan Seacrest for the last time!

  1. DennisLee says:

I was astonished that the bottom three included Chris Richardson who is a really fine singer. He has received fine comments from the judges for weeks.
Sanjaya has not received positive words on his singing for ages. Okay, his latest soft singing received some positive words but not like Blake and Chris! Ryan is really playing up the Sanjaya celebrity factor. For some reason, the public loves him. Will he be the next American Idol?! I am afraid that he has cast a spell on the public and he might very well win. Yes, over the truly gifted singers Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Chris Richardson, and the great Jordin Sparks. I find this really sad. Hopefully next week?

  2. Annie Peterson says:

I cannot tell you how much I wish Sanjaya would just stop this and GO! I have loved American Idol forever because I really thought the thinking american public had a say in these new talents, makes you feel like your opinion DOES count, but no longer.I have watched one talent after another go home while this boy-doll of “vote-for-the-worst” poster child continue to corrupt a fun show, honest people, and ruin anotherwise #1 rated show, lose all it’s credibility.

  3. A'kyra says:

Well he survived another week…at least we got rid of Haley. I can not believe they had Sanjaya and Haley singing together last night…what a train wreck! It’s obvious the Sanjaya voters are still voting strong…it’s a shame though that Sanajaya is either so clueless to not see how these people are exploiting him for NOT being talented and laughing at him, or he’s abusing the system to win but when he does no one will buy his album cause he sucks and his voters know he sucks just vote for him cause they think it’s funny…in the end it won’t be funny for him so…live it up guys but he who laughs last…..

  4. Ann says:

SANJAYA TRULY SUCKS!!! I’m not sure what makes me cringe more- his silly facial expressions, which he thinks make him look cool, or the fact that he is still on the show despite showing such limited ability to sing. It’s a sorry state of affairs when mediocrity rules and better singers like Chris end up in the ‘bottom’ three. Sanjaya should have been off the show a long time ago. I wonder if a combination of Indian call centers and his own family n friends working their fingers to the bone-calling in a vote for this guy, is what’s keeping him in.

American Idol better wake up and provide its viewers a chance to vote the worst off pretty soon, or it will start loosing its fan following.

  5. DennisLee says:

I agree Ann. He has become a huge Celebrity without viable talent. I have read blogs where people have written,
“Give him a chance. He’s only 17!” It is a singing competition and, “Hello! Jordin is only 17!” I know nothing about the Indian Call Centers. Blake Lewis is my favourite of the guys and I really think Jordin Sparks is the best of the women. Melinda and LaKisha have fantastic voices and they will get recording contracts. Jordin just seems to be the most versatile.
I vote for my favourites over and over again but I never thought that Chris Richardson, the most improved of the male artists, would end up in the bottom three. America has just fallen for Sanjaya. I really think he has a solid chance of winning! Scary, very scary.

  6. Jeanne says:

Dennis, sorry about your post being moderated. We are just doing some admin stuff. I have to agree with you – if Sanjaya stays and Blake goes, I don’t know what I will do. Really. And, yes, Jordin is also only 17. They seem lightyears apart.

Bobbin, I do remember Menudo. That’s when I first saw Ricky Martin. Good call. I do think this is similar and they were really bad…

A’Kyra, I almost passed out laughing when I read what you wrote. I was so shocked also when I saw Sanjaya and Haley singing together. It was like a cruel cosmic joke.

Ann, I am beginning to wonder about the future of the show myself… I’m sad :(

  7. A'kyra says:

LOL…Thanks Jeanne for the comment…It’s just so sad how this non talented boy is taking over American Idol with no shame. I was watching Idol Extra last night and they interviewed all the judges and Simon said that It’s getting crazy and he thinks they are going to have to step in and “veto” the voting outcome soon and Randy agreed…so at least the judges know that this is getting out of hand. The Sanjaya supporters have made their point now the Anti-Sanjaya supporters need to come out stronger…let’s go rally outside Kodak theatre…I’ll fly to Cali for that…any one else????

  8. I Hate Sanjaya says:

    A’kyra
I’ll fly to Cali, anything to get Sanjaya of the SHOW!!!

  9. DennisLee says:

I know that Fox has a show called American Idol Rewind but I have never heard of American Idol Extra. What is that? I agree that the deluge of votes keeping a no-talented singer on American Idol is ruining the show’s reputation. Sanjaya is a huge celebrity without the talent like Paris Hilton has no viable talent. I’ll say this, Sanjaya is a nicer person and not a wealthy brat like Paris. In the past, I have heard, some contestants on the show left of their own accord. One left and came back. This is the first season for me to ever watch the programme, so please pardon my lack of knowledge. Who will be in the bottom three with the country competition? It will be a challenge for LaKisha Jones to do country. Melinda Doolittle will find it out of her ‘comfort zone’. Sanjaya will do whatever he wants and he will still be in. Aren’t there people calling in from India? I thought callers from foreign countries were not permitted. Anyway, Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks are my idea of really talented singers. Sanjaya is just a celebrity who is getting way, way too much attention. I agree with Simon Cowell that the votes should be vetoed and I am glad that Randy Jackson agrees. Come on Paula Abdul, join them! They must take action. Watch all of Sanjaya’s performances and take action! The Mohawk with seven ponytails (7 is his lucky number!) and the Saturday Night Fever suit when he sang “Cheek to Cheek” and danced with Paula. Blake is the best of the guys. Sanjaya cannot win!

  10. A'kyra says:

LOL…Come on let’s do it! Calling ALL Anti-Sanjaya people let’s go to Cali and Rally in front of the Kodak Theatre and boo him like they did at the game check this out…”So, the story goes like this – Sanjaya and his friends went to a Padres/Dodgers baseball game and were happily minding their own business when the “eye” of the Jumbotron landed on him. Initially, Sanjaya smiled after noticing he had become the center of attention but that smile quickly evaporated when his smiling face on the big screen was met with loud, undeniable boos. He managed to keep his composure, but that must have hurt. ”
    Hahahah Boohoohoohooo!

  11. A'kyra says:

Hey Dennis it is a show that comes on Fox Reality channel…here is the link:
    http://www.foxreality.com/show.php?id=3530
It’s a good show where ex-idols speak their minds and they interview the judges after each show. ;)

  12. DennisLee says:

Thank you, A’kyra. I don’t have cable so I don’t get that programme. I don’t watch a great deal of TV. Did he really get Booed when he was at a game? Ah, poor boy! And he thought ALL of America loved him. It shows that Sanjaya love is not everywhere. I don’t hate him, but I don’t think he should be on the show anymore. He should have been off a long time ago: before Stephanie Edwards got voted off; before Sundance got voted off; before Brandon Rogers got voted off. Who else was in the initial 24 contestants? People are tuning in to see how bad he is but still love him. I don’t get that at all. I’d record the show so I could watch the performances a second time. Now I vote for my two faves: Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks. Haley is already finding work! She is on Ellen DeGeneres’ show today. A lot of AI contestants find great opportunities. Fox should give a sitcom to Sanjaya and Freddie Prinze,Jr. their own show. He wouldn’t have to sing on there. He could be like Fez on “That 70s Show”. Just get him off of American Idol!!!

  13. A'kyra says:

Your welcome Dennis! I think the reality is starting to hit Sanjaya really and this is only the beginning. He doesn’t realize that there are really only a handful of people that actually like him and think he has talent (ugh!) But what he doesn’t realize is that the majority of the people voting for him can’t stand him and think its a joke. I went on this one site where people were voting for him but ALL the comments were saying how much he sucks and they hate him but think its funny to mess up the show. So reality will hit him hard soon that he is just being used as a joke…he is literally the butt of the joke and that is sad but…I’m down for the road trip! Hahaha

  14. A'kyra says:

Hey guys check this out…just about everyone on this page hates Sanjaya but think its fun to vote for him…insane!
    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=76757262

  15. A'kyra says:

What the heck did Sanjaya think he was doing last night…he doesn’t even care to make an effort anymore and TRY to sing well…he murdered that song last night! He sounded like an old drunk man trying to sing….he thinks its funny and knows that no matter what he does, people will vote for him…I voted 10 times for Jordin, Melinda, Blake and Lakiesha, then i wake up this morning, turn on the radio and this chick is saying how she voted 30 times for Sanjaya just b/c she hates the show! I called in and let her have it! So who is down to go to Cali and rally in front of Kodak Theater to get him OFF!

  16. DennisLee says:

Jordin, Phil, Blake, and Melinda were great last night. Sanjaya stated that he wanted to do justice to Bonnie Raitt. He massacred her song! He doesn’t even try anymore and he was totally embarrassing. He went off key and was a pain for the ears. Alas! I did see the fellow on Letterman last night who is behind the vote for the worst website. He thinks it is fun and said that all these final contestants get recording contracts anyway but Sanjaya as the winner of American Idol won’t get a contract. He said that Howard Stern got behind this and joined forces and that Stern hates the show and wants to destroy it. I voted for Jordin and Blake some 25 times each last night and about 5 times for everyone else EXCEPT Sanjaya. The producers have to take action and have Sanjaya disqualified. The votes are being unjustly tampered with. It is like Florida and Ohio all over again except for Sanjaya. Everyone knows who he is whether they have watched the show or not. He is the media’s darling. He is no darling to me. He doesn’t have to try anymore. People everywhere are voting for him as a joke. I am not amused.

  17. A'kyra says:

Dannis I totally agree…it is not amusing anymore! Sanjaya totally sucks and people are voting for the wrong reason and its messing up the show :(
UGH!!!!!He more than massacred that song…he sounded like an elephant trying to have sex with a chicken! He should take that KFC offer cause with that voice that’s all he’s going to get…chicken head!

  18. DennisLee says:

HOORAY!!! I never hated Sanjaya. I just didn’t like that people were voting for him for all the wrong reasons: “He’s cute!”, “He’s entertaining.”, “He is eccentric.” I was aghast that BLAKE was in the bottom three! Geesh! I voted for him over and over again. Jordin is my favourite and then Blake. Well, Sanjaya is not going to be back. Chris Richardson and Phil Stacey are still with us. Phil did a great job at country
but Blake has always turned in fantastic performances. I was amazed that he was in the bottom three over Chris who has had some weaker performances. Anyway, it appears that Howard Stern and that guy who started the vote for the worst website can both go home, too. You cannot ruin a show that America loves!

  19. Katy says:

WOW. people that are threatening not to watch American Idol, people going on hunger strikes against Sanjaya, people making petitions to vote him off. i have words of advice — GET A FRICKING LIFE — omg get over the fact that hes popular. leave the kid alone. he may not be the best but hes entertaining and someone jus tell me apart from kelly clarkson which american idol has actually done well?!??!?!?!!?!?? NONE. so for all you haters, it aint 7 yr olds that r voting. u jus say that to ur self to make up for the fact that hes actually getting votes. its the FREAKING public.

  20. bnpositive says:

    Ummm, let’s see:
Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Clay Aiken, Elliot Yamin

  21. Katy says:

yea i said besides kelly clarkson..
jennifer hudson: got voted off she wasnt the winner
Clay Aiken: HAHAHAHA i hope you were kidding about that one, he’s name died off a billion years ago.. and plus he werent the winner
Elliot Yamen: umm yea like anyone in the main industry has heard of him. — also NOT a winner.

  22. DennisLee says:

I am sure that Clay Aiken has a following in music. A lot of the best artists don’t get radio play but are still selling CDs. The “Main Industry” is not the way to determine what is good. The radio stations are fixed by big corporations ruled by the big music companies. There are a lot of independent labels as well as alternate radio stations that don’t play what is on the Billboard Top 100. Having top 40 hits isn’t all there is to the music industry. I hate the radio since it is filled with commercials and they play the same few songs over and over. Elliot Yamen (whom I have not heard) is still probably doing well by his music. A lot of American Idol people get recording contracts and do well without being on the corporate owned radio stations. The music industry is much broader than what you hear on your favourite radio station.

  23. Dan says:

umm thanks for that history lesson. but i know much more than the “main industry and radio stations”.you THINK clay akien and elliot Yamen are sucessful!?!?! are you serious.. go look at any nation wide charts, even not the commercial ones, you will NOT find their names on it. Just because you got a record deal once upon a time doesnt mean ur sucessful. any bonehead with money can get a record out. perfect example: paris hilton. enough said.

  24. DennisLee says:

Hello Dan, What you define as successful
may be different than what I mean. It is all relative but I have known recording artists who tour, are on independent labels, have a following and live very comfortably through their music. Maybe they aren’t on any chart. I don’t follow charts but some people still find a way to make it with music. It is a wide field out there.
Why are people on here so defensive? And can anyone spell words like “You’re”
I have heard Clay Aiken but not Elliott Yamen. And I know that anyone can create their own label but finding a distributor is another thing. Dolly Parton is not on a big label anymore. She is considered too old but she is on a smaller label and still putting out CDs and has a following. I have no idea what non-commercial charts are. I know who I like and I buy their music. I was simply pointing out that there are ways to make a career out of one’s music without big labels, and mainstream radio. I doubt that Clay is in the poorhouse. I thought people on here would be rejoicing that Sanjaya is history! Now let’s see if he gets a record deal.

  25. A'kyra says:

Sanjaya is GONE! Yippee! Today is a GREAT DAY!

  26. Dede says:

Thank god sanjaya is gone finally!!!!!

  27. DennisLee says:

I was so suprised to see Blake in the final three. I really felt this was screwed up. Just like Melinda, I couldn’t figure out who were the top three. I’d have sat on the floor like she did. With Blake on one side and Jordin on the other, who could tell? And Sanjaya hasn’t been in the bottom three for ages.
When it was revealed that he was in the bottom three, I thought that Blake was safe and he was but a woman with LaKisha’s powerful voice, even if country is not her genre, she could not be sent home while Sanjaya had given such an abyssmal performance the night before–he massacred Bonnie Raitt’s song
beyond belief. I was so glad that he was the one voted off of the show. It was long overdue and to the guy who started this vote for the worst has lost his little ploy and he was on Letterman Tuesday night, too! He said it was fun but that Howard Stern joined forces with him and Stern wanted to kill the show. Well, they didn’t.
I don’t care for reality shows but this is a singing competition and it is very well done.
I never HATED Sanjaya. LaKisha gave him a big hug so his fellow contestants didn’t hate him either. He was being used by the media. I talked to people who never watch it and they know about him. Sanjaya was used as a pawn by the media.
I am glad that he is off now and we can hear some great performances by the remaining six contestants who have really fine voices. I am behind Jordin Sparks who has been successful with every musical genre given to her.
Good luck to Sanjaya. I am glad he is off of the show but I cannot hate someone who didn’t mean any harm. He is young and he’ll find his niche in life. I am just glad that it isn’t on American Idol.

  28. A'kyra says:

LOL…I agree with you Dennis. I am glad he is finally off the show. He was out of his league in this contest is all. But your right he will find his niche in life even if it is just a bucket of chicken. He’ll be just fine.

  29. DennisLee says:

Hello A’Kyra, it is always nice when you reply since you are not one of the people who get all hostile. When it was announced by Ryan that, “Sanjaya, you’re going home.” I was astonished. I thought, “Wow! It is really happening at last!” All those votes from people who were voting for the worst must have gotten bored by all of this. GREAT. The teen girls must have lost their crush on him. That is a fickle age. :-) He is so young and he will find his niche. Some label might sign him. He isn’t that bad at softer songs. Haley has already been on Ellen DeGenere’s show so I think she will find her niche, too. All of us who voted over and over again for our favourites did it at last. And the Sanjaya love thing wore off. HURRAH!

  30. A'kyra says:

I think people are a little hostile because they lost…Sanjaya is off the show and a lot of people probably lost a LOT of money while betting on him this week so…no worries here, I am very happy he is not on the show. Kind of upset that he will be on the tour though. Well, maybe I shouldn’t say upset, people may take that wrong. But put it like this, I know people that have gone to every American Idol concert tour and they say that they are not going this year so they won’t have to be subjected to hearing him sing. I don’t know about anyone else, but if there are others out there that feel the same way then AI may have damaged themselves by allowing Sanjaya to stay on the show for so long, but we shall see. Until then we can get back to enjoying American Idol and the contestants can relax too and really compete.
Have a great day Dennis :)

  31. DennisLee says:

Hello A’Kyra, Some people are just always on the defensive and like to be nasty. It is a part of our society. There are those people who are ready to disagree just to be right. I never hated Sanjaya Malakar. Why should I hate him? Did he really intentionally hurt anyone else? He was never a nasty person like Paris Hilton! He was used by the guy who set up that website and Howard Stern. Sanjaya was a pawn of the media. I am new to American Idol and I got hooked when there were a few less than 24 contestants. I don’t know too much about the tour. Will that be on TV?
I don’t like Reality Shows but this is all different. A singing competition is entertaining and I think it is intelligently devised to have the contestants learn different types of music. Sanjaya was extremely bad singing many of the songs such as “Cheek to Cheek” when he danced with Paula Abdul. Good contestants got voted off while he was safe time after time. Haley Scranato has moved on and has a MySpace site and she records well. Live performances, while being judged, is so different than recording and feeling more confident. She has a career ahead of her. I wish all of them well. And I am for Jordin Sparks!!! All the Best to you, A’kyra!

  32. Dan says:

umm hi dennis. its nice there are people in the world like you who think that having one song in some random corner of the world, is being successfull. Well go on live in your little fantasy world because guess what, the rest of the world does not define successful as ur audience being consisted of 5 people. (which is the case with Clay Akien) I did not think that Sanjaya had the best vocals but i did feel that he was entertaining. I also fail to understand why people have to be so cruel towards him. You know what, hes just doing what he loves on the show. Just cause the American public kept voting for him should not mean that he should be targeted.
Sanjaya recently went to a baseball game in New York and when the photographer focused on him. Many people in the stadium booed. AT THAT MOMENT WHEN PEOPLE BOO ED. NOT ONLY WAS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC CRUEL, RUDE buT also acted like jackasses. People need to realize it wasnt his idea of the conspriacy. why should he be punished?

  33. DennisLee says:

Dan, I agree that the cruelty towards Sanjaya is uncalled for. I just saw him on Jay Leno and he is well mannered and he knew he was in trouble with Country night. He shows no hostility at all.
As for definition of successful: there are musical artists who tour a great deal and to smaller venues and sell their CDs there and have a cult following. They receive critical acclaim and are living very well. Two singers I like a great deal do this and one is Melanie who has a lot of fans in Belgium, The Netherlands, and Germany.
Another is Marianne Faithfull whose albums always receive great reviews and her following is extremely devoted to her. I have met both at concerts and collect on both of them. I really don’t know about Clay Aiken. I don’t know what you mean about five songs. I don’t follow the charts at all. If your idea of success is different than mine; that is fine. I am not in a fantasy world about musical “success”. My example of Marianne Faithfull is a good one since she has two homes and a devoted following. If, like Billy Ray Cyrus, you are on “Dancing With the Stars”, then that is showing a lack of being able to live off of ones musical talent. Worse yet if one has to do State Fairs.
Peter Noone is doing nostalgia shows and has given out his CD to the guys he mentored on American Idol. I’ve not seen that CD in the shops but he must be doing fine. Lulu is a huge star in the UK. She is on Elton John’s new label but her albums haven’t been released in the US for awhile. She has a home in NY and one in London. I really don’t know what your idea of success is but if Clay Aiken is a waiter somewhere, then you are right that he is not doing so hot with his music. I really haven’t paid attention to him. Let’s drop it.

  34. A'kyra says:

Good morning Dennis. I see a few more people are getting hostile. Sanjaya is not a bad person at all and I think the majority of people that did not vote for him will agree with that. We just didn’t feel that he was right for the competition. I have to agree with Simon when he said that Sanjaya’s performance on Tuesday night was no better than the terrible singers they show(exploit is a better term) when the season first begins. Country night definitely killed Sanjaya’s regin but let’s be honest, 90% of his performances were just as bad. He may be an entertainer of sorts but this is a singing competiton and people are either forgetting that or don’t realize it b/c they have never watched the show until the whole “Sanjaya” controversy came about. Unfortunately our society thrives off gossip and other people’s misfortunes. People keep saying to leave him alone and stop being so rude to this 17 year old kid. Yes, some of the comments were very rude, but Jordin is also only 17 years old and everyone knows she can sing circles around Sanjaya. No one is being rude to her b/c she can sing. It’s not that people actually HATE him more than they hate the fact that one, he was still on the show where he was the weakest link, and two people who don’t like the show, never watched the show, or just plain despised the show, decided to ruin it for everyone else so the anger was really misdirected.
As for Clay Aiken, He had his 15 minutes of fame just like every other person that makes the top 10 on Idol. Ruben Studdard won over him but Clay may have had a better career over Ruben. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are the only two Idol “winners” so far that have had outstanding success with their musical careers. Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtery are two non-winners from Idol that are doing very well. I think Ruben and Fantasia are about on the same level of succes being former idol winners but Fantasia may actually be doing a little better now that she made it to Broadway. In any case it was just Sanjay’s time to go and he will be just fine. I saw an interview with his family and they are in good spirits and are thinking he will have a great modeling career from this.
Have a Great Day Dennis :)

  35. EEEWW!!!! Sanjia! Oh my GOSH! I am watching him now on the Ellen show, and OH MY GOSH! HE LOOKS AND TALKS LIKE A WOMAN!!! HIS HAIR! IT DOESN’t HELP HIS MANLY IMAGE!!! If I could vote still, I would have voted over a million times for him to get off. I would have been on the computer for over a day in a half, and I would just keep voting! and keep voting!!! wow. I know, lol. ok then. p.s. Boycott American Idol to showw them how disserpointed that we are. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. WHY WONT SANJIA JUST FADE INTO THE BACKROUND LIKE HE’S SUPPOSED TO AND LIKE EVERYONE WANTS HIM TO?!?!?!?!

  37. A'kyra says:

Dear IHate…I can understand your passion in not liking Sanjaya

  38. A'kyra says:

Dear Ihate…I can understand your passion in not liking Sajaya (this is the correct spelling of his name by the way)but for many of us, including myself, who dislike the kid, did so b/c we felt that he was not right for the competition b/c it is a singing competition and he has very little talent in that area. Also I’m not sure if you are a fan of show but judging by your comments you probably have not watched the show prior to the Sanjaya fiasco but just for the record, you can’t vote online…only by phone or text. People were voting for him for the wrong reasons and the talented singers were being voted off. Now that he has been voted off, it is really irrelevant what he does now. Let him get his 15 minutes of fame. Who cares if he is doing the Ellen show or even him being invited to The White House for dinner. As long as he is off American Idol where the real talent can have a fair chance we really shouldn’t care what he does. After all we did make him what he is today with all the extra attention from the media and all…just let it go.

  39. A'kyra says:

Ooops, see now I spelled it wrong..it’s Sanjaya. LOL…

  40. DennisLee says:

To IHateSanjiaThatMuchPoo: Why are you spending energy hating someone so much?
I saw Sanjaya on Leno and he seemed like a humble person and didn’t come across as arrogant or conceited. He got his GED and plans on going to college. If you loathe him so much, why are you not turning off the TV when he is on a show he is on? The fellow contestants on American Idol never seemed to dislike him as a person nor did any of the mentors who worked with him. You don’t know him and you hate him for what reason? Hate is a strong word. Sanjaya is a celebrity due to being on American Idol and for not singing very well but people liked him for his personality. Who is he huring now that he is off American Idol? A’Kyra made the valid points that this site has dealt with and that was getting him voted off so the more talented singers could perform. I never hated Sanjaya. I just felt he was not up to par with other contestants and some were being voted off who are better singers than he is. He is a celebrity and I am glad it was Sanjaya who had dinner with Bush because I would have said no. When you see that Sanjaya is going to be on a TV show, find something else to do. Stop the hatred for a 17 year old guy who never hurt you. He doesn’t deserve hatred. Our society is too quick to hate. A’Kyra is right.

  41. Audrey says:

Sanjaya is the best Idol we’ve seen in a long time. I think he’s very talented. Now, he’s off, and I cried for hours.

  42. DennisLee says:

Audrey, He was voted off ages ago. Do you think that with all the publicity he received from the media
that he is not going to have a career? Even in the AI Finale, he was the only one of the 12 who was voted off earlier than the top four who got special notice! He has been offered by cable stations to have his own show. You haven’t heard the last off Sanjaya Malakar. He will be on the big tour, too. So dry your eyes, Sanjaya will be around for awhile. Winning American Idol isn’t a guarantee of a career that will last. Lots of contestants in the final 12 have done well. I think that all the media hype has helped Sanjaya to be offered opportunities to have a career. It all depends on what he chooses to accept.
    All the Best,
    Dennis.

  43. Raven Woods says:

Ah, you ALL suck! Sad, pathetic human beings. And Sanjaya is having the last laugh-all the way to the bank! Have you caught him on the tour? He’s great!
Too bad…some of us knew it all along. We’re all laughing….at all of YOU!

  44. Raven Woods says:

And for all of you still insisting he can’t sing, PLEASE shut up and listen to his studio downloads. Listen to him sing Sweet Chariot on YouTube, with his church choir. He was brilliant! Still is. An AMAZING singer. Maybe not a powerhouse, but he knows how to interpret a song beautifully. His voice is pleasant and has a great tone. Certainly he is better than Britney, Justin and about 90% of the artists currently dominating the Top 40 charts. Most of those people don’t have “great” voices; they sell on their personality and image. Their voices are “singable” at best; they have found their niche in the music world and don’t have people like Simon Cowell judging them on national TV or have to embarrass themselves by trying to sing in a genre they aren’t suited for-like the AI contestants. Sanjaya has a wonderful jazz and r&b voice; he’ll do fine in those genres.

Wow! Are people seriously still commenting on a thread from March??!! And are very hostile?!

Raven I was going to let this go but I am puzzled as to why you would come on here and call us pathetic human beings. So since it takes a pathetic human being to actually know one of it’s own kind, I guess that makes you head master of the “Pathetic Humans”.
We are expressing our opinions as you did EXCEPT you seem to enjoy name calling and putting people down. Sanjaya may be your favorite Idol ever and that’s great for you but that is no reason for you to say such harsh words and call people Pathetic human beings. That was low and rude. We are normal people that really don’t care about Sanjaya’s pockets and how he is, according to you, laughing all the way to the bank. He’s laughing cuz he’s high- how about that. And you and your buddies are laughing because really you are the pathetic ones that are just as tone deaf as he is…BTW I saw the video you referred to on youtube…now that was PATHETIC! Sorry but it wasn’t that great. He had absolutely no stage presence and he was swaying side to side with his elbows mashed in his sides moving faster than the music was and sorry hon but his vocals are not that great. Sure he can grow and become a great singer (cough) but he will need a voice coach and he really needs to work on his projection or just follow Paris around and be a Paparazzi whore…he would be great at that plus it seems to be the up and coming career to have ;)

Good for Sanjaya. I never had anything personal against him as a person. I never met him but he was on AI way, way too long. I am puzzled as to why you posted on here as this is a dead issue. He was voted off and Jordin Sparks won the contest. Sanjaya has a limited range of singing but if he can do something with it and have a career in music, it is fine by me. I wish all of the finalists the very best. If I were to pick one with the least range, it would be Sanjaya but that doesn’t mean he can’t use what limited range he has to put out a CD. Really, his visibility has died down. It is up to having a publicist now to do something for him. As for all the celebrity gossip like what is going on with Britney and Lindsay, I wish them well but it is their personal lives and they just need help. I don’t need to see it on the covers of papers.
    All the Best,
    Dennis.

    Dennis,

I don’t think my coments were really directed at you as you seem to be a reasonable person. Everyone is indeed entitled to their opinions but my problem has been with the absolute mass hatred (some of it very misguided) directed at him. As for instance, I saw that you took up for him when that kid was going on and on for no reason about hating him just cause he “looked like a woman” on Ellen, which was obviously nothing but a homophobic rant with no basis in anything constructive. For that, I thank you. So my comments weren’t intended at you and I do know this is an old thread but I guess it still upsets me when I go back and read this stuff. I really should not, as it’s just dwelling on the negative, and Sanjaya himself has moved on and so should I.

We’ll probably always disagree but I do think Sanjaya can have a viable career. I don’t really know where it’s written that an American Idol contestant has to be Pavaratti to be deserving of a Top 10 finish. I think we’re getting way too caught up in that idea at the expense of remembering that the most popular pop icons of our time have been people not with great abilities as singers, but with stage presence and charisma. Look at Madonna, or Mick Jagger, or dozens of others I could name. None of them would have made it on American Idol (well, not Mick anyway cause he’s British but you know what I mean). I remember Simon Cowell saying on a talk show that Johnny Cash-JOHNNY CASH- would have never been put through on American Idol. So that tells you where these people are really coming from insofar as judging talent. Besides, I really thought the whole idea of the show (at least, originally) was to find the best raw, undiscovered talent, that diamond-in-the-rough. I never knew it was supposed to be about promoting professional singers who’ve already had years of professional experience. (And let’s face it, that was pretty much the crop of this year’s talent-professional backup singers and trained musicians). And I guess maybe I’m just failing to understand when did American Idol get to be such a huge deal that the show is more important than simple human dignity and compassion? I mean, when I was reading things like, “Somebody kill Sanjaya please” and Globe magazine was printing horrendous stories calling him a she-he, etc., and you realize all this is supposed to stem from people being soooooo upset over a TV show, well I’m sorry. I don’t get it. And as for opinions, well, everyone has them. I personally thought Blake was an over-pimped contestant who had nothing but a gimmick going for him, and whose every performance was nothing but a karaoke version of the original. I thought Simon hit the nail on the head in the very beginning, when he told Blake, “You’re not as good as you think you are.” But again, that’s an opinion, right? It’s certainly not something that would excuse a nationwide Blake- bashing campaign. But that’s what happened to Sanjaya. All because some became of the notion that their “opinion” was somehow more valid than mine-or any of the other people voting for him.

I guess I don’t understand, but I never will. It seemed in the beginning, when Sanjaya first auditioned, that he was destined to be America’s sweetheart. I still think that’s the way it could have been, had Simon kept his homophobic comments out and focused on what he was supposed to have been focusing on-the singing. I mean, honestly, how many times in the whole competition did he ever make one critique of the vocals, other than saying the first performance was boring? Beyond that, he never said one word about the singing. It was always a crack about the hair, or the hula dancing, or something that was anything but a constructive critique of the vocals. Anyway, that’s my piece on the matter, and I’ll let it rest there.

But thanks, Dennis, for your thoughtful response and commentary. It was much appreciated.

Raven- Now that you have explained your point, I have been humbled and have to agree with most of what you have explained. It is very true that American Idol has changed. You are correct in thinking of what AI was originally supposed to be about, but that has changed. It is more of a popularity contest and votes are not based on vocal talent but rather who looks better or has the most dirt in their background. It’s sick and has totally changed what AI is supposed to be about, instead it has turned into what “America” is really about and that’s sad. I mean we have to be honest here and we see it everyday that America and Americans are more focused on others misfortunes and who is cuter than who and who can sleep around with everyone’s man and the biggest thing America glorifies and has turned into—one big party! It’s sad and i am an American but what has happened to this country is horrible. American Idol is a symbol of that. It went from being wholesome and true to a farce, so I do see your frustration and your point. Hatred has consumed this nation as a whole.

  49. DennisLee says:

Hello Raven, I didn’t understand this rage of hatred about a TV show. Who was Sanjaya hurting? No one. He is a gentle fellow and he was obviously loved by his peers on the show. So, why was everyone getting so hateful? This bothered me a great deal. Young people getting killed in Iraq and hatred at Sanjaya? No, thanks. I was not willing to join in that crucifixion or any crucifixion for that is not in my nature. On talk shows, Sanjaya was well
mannered and humble. He didn’t speak against anyone! That is credit to his character. I never hated him. I never hated any of the contestants. And, once again, it is a TV show. Sanjaya being voted off would not shatter world events.
I loathed all the homophobic comments. Who cares in this era who is gay and who isn’t? Let us get past
that. He appeared on Ellen’s show and she is out as a Lesbian. She is a great person!
Sanjaya sang that one song in Spanish quite well and that could be his genre. Some of my favourite singers wouldn’t have made it on AI either. It is not just a matter of hitting a wide range or even the right notes, it is a feel.
As for these teeny boppers saying “looks creepy”. That I didn’t understand at all because he is a very good looking young man. I detect racism and that is ugly.
We live in troubled times and peace begins within ourselves. I have no hatred towards others. I didn’t like the rigging of “Vote for the Worst” that was arranged by some guy and Howard Stern got involved but it is a TV show. The hysteria was inexcusable. I applaud Sanjaya for keeping his head on straight and for having supportive family members. I am happy for him. If he gets a recording contract and puts out a CD, good for him. I wish him well and I wish all of the contestants well. I feel that is at it should be. It takes courage to do what they did and go on live TV. It was Sanjaya who was ridiculed and adored at the same time. Luckily, it did not scar him as his family is a loving one.
I appreciate your enlightening and compassionate words. We need more people like you who don’t follow mass hysteria, homophobia and racism.
    All the Best,
    Dennis.

I think Sanjaya Malakar is suckiest singer on American Idol. What were people thinking when they put him in the Top 10. He really RUINED the show , I cheered when he got voted off. I saw him perform during the American Idols Live! Tour when they stop at The Mark Of The Quad Cities Moline,Ill and he stunk.
If put a debut CD I’ll get it then I”ll burn the DAMN CD until it is ashes. YOU SUCK!!!

    Sanjaya Malakar Hater,
    David Tompos
