Simon Cowell on Katharine McPhee and American Idol’s Controversial Contestants

by Jeanne on February 8th, 2008

simon cowell brown background In a quick interview with Extra yesterday, American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, talked about former finalist, Katharine McPhee, and the fact that some of the current contestants have gotten record deals in the past.  Here’s what he said:

“Didn’t care much about Katharine McPhee,” Cowell told Extra Thursday. “I don’t think she was a credible recording artist. Katharine will end up on Broadway!”

Also, when asked about Kristy Lee Cook and Carly Smithson, who had recording contracts previously but were given a golden ticket to Hollywood this season, “Oh, give me a break!  Regardless of whether or not you got a recording contract, they’ve all failed, which is why they turn up on American Idol.”

It’s been a real source of controversy, so I’m wondering what you think.  Should people who have gotten recording contracts in the past be given a chance on American Idol?

Simon Cowell is a performer in a TV show who’s job it is to say things he doesn’t mean about other performers in the TV show and mean things whenever he can. He is just one nasty old bitch is what he is!

(Good timing on your bitchy comment too, just after she gets married, bitch!)

well the fact that they keep harping on about how theyre out to discover america’s best UNDISCOVERED talent really comes back to bite them in the ass when they go and put kristy and whatshername on the show. FURTHERMORE both those girls had DIRECT relation to the company that signs AI winners, etc. there are 2 good youtube videos exposing this. just look up “the truth about kristy lee cook” in youtube and you should see the videos.

then again if they didnt sign pre-signed people to the show we wouldnt have carrie underwood (or so ive heard), and many others. considering how much i love carrie i aknowledge that it would be a shame to let those people go, but at least dont go and lie saying you want undiscovered talent. also, as far as i know, carrie underwood was not previously related to any AI labels unlike the two girls this season.

Kat will be just fine and in typical Simon fashion he states her ending up on Broadway like its a bad thing. Jeesh. And Simon did you see who was playing piano with Katharine at her reception? David Foster! I think this confirms he will be working with her in the future.

Simon is trying to get some press for a dying show. They brought in ringers this year to try to stem the tide but Idol’s best days are long over.

I still find it mind-boggling that Simon Cowell, who never graduated from High School. can’t read a note of music, can’t do an interview without pulling on his sleeves, has never done anything , or contributed to, any world needed charity, who has made millions from the recordings of kids like Clay Aiken, Underwood, Clarkson and others (never has anything good to say about these once they are gone) appears to be pissed at their success ( and on THIS new Idol Show has dissed Clay Aiken twice badly and mean-spirited)) What’s with this guy who is so drunk with power?…there is a clear dislike for Aiken…what is that all about? No - I am not a claymate - just really disgusted with this man. From Simon comes only negative comments about Aiken. With the hundreds of thousands of records Aiken sold he probably paid for at least one of Cowells multi million dollar mansions . Clay aiken put the MAGIC in that show and they have never been able to capture that again - with anyone. How stupid do you think your viewing audience is Cowell?. Like me, starting to catch on.

Simon is just being honest.katharine’s sexy image is the only thing she has going, and thats going to be damaged severely with her marriage. It’s hard to think that anyone would waste there time and money to give her another record deal after Simon and RCA let Hollywood know just what they think of her as a recording artist

And once more pattispage appears in a Katharine-related blog to bash and slash. Pattispage, isn’t it fortunate that your hometown is only a stones throw from the state mental hospital in Rome, N.Y.?
Simon really needs to shut his pie-hole. Way to undercut the product of your show, idiot—–Simon Fuller and Nigel Lithgoe, not to mention 19E,must be thrilled to death with your comments.

pattispage is a mean-spirited stalker going from blog to blog dissing Kat wherever she can!
David Foster picked her up to produce her next album even before it was known that RCA dropped her.
You’ll have to eat your words yet patti!

I think I’ll go with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli’s opinions of Katharine’s musical gifts, they have won multiple awards between them for the success of their musical careers. What is Simon Cowell? Head clown at a 3 ring circus.

Even if you want to discard everything said by the celebrity guests on Idol as part of the script, you cannot ignore the fact that David and Bocelli have repeatedly asked Katharine to join them in their musical endeavors long after Idol.

And who is that playing Piano at Katharine’s wedding? Why it is none other than David Foster once again.

    From Wikipedia:
David Foster has won fourteen Grammy Awards (three for producer of the year) and has been nominated a total of forty-three times. He has been nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Song and won a Golden Globe Award for the song “The Prayer” from the film Quest for Camelot and he has been named BMI’s “Songwriter of the Year”.

I think his credentials speak for themselves.

    Furthermore:

Foster has worked as a producer with The Bee Gees, John Lennon, Michael Bublé, Clay Aiken, Josh Groban, Katharine McPhee, Céline Dion, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers, Faith Hill, The Corrs, George Harrison, Ronnie Hawkins, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Filippa Giordano, Laura Pausini, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Brandy, Luis Miguel, Fred Norris, Richard Marx, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Vanessa Williams, Anne Murray, Olivia Newton-John, Andrea Bocelli, Deborah Blando, Lisa Marie Presley, Lara Fabian, Dolly Parton, Julio Iglesias, Gordon Lightfoot, Madonna, All-4-One, Ricardo Montaner, Al Jarreau, Kenny Loggins, Natalie Cole, Yolanda Adams, The Tubes, Peter Cetera, Latoya London, and many others.

Quite a resume. And he wants to work with Katharine.

Shove that up your ignorant cakehole pattispage and choke on it.

Oops - shouldn’t mock the mentally ill. Pattispage’s obsession with younger women/older men comes from the time she spent on the street as a teenager. She thinks that all men over 40 must be like the Johns she had to service for $5 a job. LOL.

Phrankie…love your comments..totally agree about the genius of David Foster! He is a friend of Andrea and of Katharine!
Patti conveniently ignores the truth in favor of her ludicrous predictions and fabrications. She is obsessed with Nick and male enhancement products!I think she’s a man-hating gay woman in love with Kat and jealous of Nick.
PP is,in fact, the epitome of an idolstalker!

I think the new season of American Idol is just not that good.. I think its unfair that they put these singers in that already had a chance. I thought American Idol was for Amateurs that never had a record deal. Plus these top 24 they have now are noway as good as previous seasons. Im not impressed with any of them..I think Idol needs to come clean about a lot of misconception that just don’t add up..

There haven’t been any real amateurs on American Idol in a loooong time. Everyone on here in the past five years has had some sort of ties to the music business. They’ve all had a chance but haven’t made it. That’s why you’ve never heard of them.

I mean this isn’t the NFL draft or the NBA draft a lot of the people on their have sung professionally it doesn’t mean anything. I mean like Simon said just cuz you have a contract with a label it doesn’t make you a famous person. They are people who sold 399 albums to friends and family. but every year their are people who have sung back up for the likes of aguilera and others or people who have been in bands that get paid to put on shows. So i think its a whole bunch of nonsense to complain about the stuff. I mean if your currently undercontract that would pose a problem but thats not the situation. so people need to get over it besides good luck beating david and remeile
