]]> American Idol Season 7 finalist, Carly Smithson, has been tapped to perform during the Opening Ceremony of the 2009 State Games of America on July 30 at the Colorado Springs World Arena. 

“This will be something special for the athletes and the fans,” said Colorado Springs Sports Corporation carly-smithson-top-7-american-idolPresident/CEO Tom Osborne. “Carly Smithson is one of America’s most popular performers, recognized by millions of young fans everywhere. Uhhh, I love Carly Smithson and she was a real sweetheart in person (very energetic!) but I don’t know if I’d say that she was recognizable to millions just yet (although, she might quickly rise to fame as part of the new group We Are the Fallen).

I have to admit that I had never heard of this Olympic-style event so I looked it up.  It seems pretty cool.  There are a wide variety of sports to take in from archery to diving and soccer.  For more information, check out www.stategames.org!
