France Idol “Nouvelle Star” Update

Julien Doré, the contestant many consider the forerunner for the title of Nouvelle Star has given another memorable performance with Britney Spears’ “Baby…One More Time.” Nouvelle Star is France’s version of American Idol.

Simon Has Love for Melinda, Advice for Britney

Everyone saw how disappointed Simon Cowell was when Melinda Doolittle was voted off of this season of American Idol. I guess he still has a warm place in his heart for her, as he should. He does, however, seem to dislike Britney Spears.

In an interview with Goof Morning America on Thursday, Simon tells Britney to “go home to your family.” I’d say that some good sound advice. He also says that Brit-Brit is still able to say her career because she is “still one of the most talked about pop stars on the planet. She has the X-factor because people want to write about her. She’s not conventional, she’s not normal.” He adds, though, that Britney “can’t handle the tension and the pressure.” His advice? “Lock the door, don’t go out with your stupid friends, have some home-cooked food, get a sense of reality, go lie in the garden, okay? And then say to yourself, ‘There’s more good in my life than bad. I’m still a rich, talented girl – now I want to get my career back on track.’ End of story.”

HERE’S WHAT HE THINKS ABOUT WHO SHOULD HAVE WON…

Simon went on to say that “Jordin was the most improved over the whole season. She didn’t start the best but midway through, this was the girl who suddenly got momentum.”

But…

“Melinda should have won,” he says. “She tried the hardest, was consistently the best and had the best voice. I think about it now – whether I should have endorsed her as much as [I did],” he says. “I think it was the right thing to do.”

Sanjaya’s Public Abuse – Have We Gone Too Far?

So, the story goes like this – Sanjaya and his friends went to a Padres/Dodgers baseball game and were happily minding their own business when the “eye” of the Jumbotron landed on him. Initially, Sanjaya smiled after noticing he had become the center of attention but that smile quickly evaporated when his smiling face on the big screen was met with loud, undeniable boos. He managed to keep his composure, but that must have hurt. Britney Spears also fell victim to public wrath at a basketball game recently.

Why would people do that? I mean, when Ashlee Simpson got booed during her half-time performance a while back, she deserved it. She was singing badly after being humiliated when her lipsynching was exposed on Saturday Night Live. She was asking people for the attention. Sanjaya and Britney were merely spectators at a sporting event.

Have we crossed the line? Do you think celebrities (aside from those being accused of some heinous act or crime) who are just trying to engage in “normal” activities should be the target of attacks? What if the paparazzi exposed everyone of your mistakes (yes, I am talking to you), would you get booed??? Would you really deserve it?
