Canadian Idol Cancelled for 2009 Season

WOW!  It’s official – there will be no Canadian Idol for 2009.  The National Post is reporting that CTV released the following statement: “as a result of the current economic climate, production of Canadian Idol will rest for the 2009 year.”
From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look like the show is totally cancelled but it is being put on hold.  I’m really surprised but I’m not out of hope.  The article also pointed out that other Idol shows have taken year-long breaks and come back which was the case in Germany, Russia and the Netherlands.

Canadian Idol Christmas: Theo Tams Christmas Dream

Canadian Idol winner, Theo Tams, hasn’t been wearing the crown for very long but it’s been super busy, it would seem!  Today’s Idol Christmas music comes from Tams who has released two new tracks just in time of the holiday season!
One song, "Christmas Dream" was co-written by Tams and I think it’s really pretty.  I don’t always like original Christmas music (I like the oldies) but this will be doing in to my collection.  List to it on the CHUM FM website.
On iTunes, you can download either "Christmas Dream" or "Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)."  The best …read more

Why Idol Auditions Should Allow Instruments Part 2

Greg Neufeld, 23, Abbottsford, B.C. is incredible. Listen to him!

Why Idol Auditions Should Allow Instruments Part 1

Here is one glaring example of why American Idol should allow the use of instruments during auditions (Australian Idol and Canadian Idol allow it).
Carly Rae Jepsen, 21 from Mission, B.C. So unique, so fresh, so creative. Can’t believe that’s an original song. She’s great!!!
Again, forgive the poor quality of the video

Canadian Idol Best Female Audition – Jessica Sheppard

Jessica Sheppard, 21, of Bowmanville, ON wowed the judges when she auditioned for Canadian Idol. She doesn’t mess up, by the way. The judges just wanted her to get to a certain point in the song.
It’s bad quality but you can hear her just fine!

Canadian Idol Best Male Performance – Sam Romijn

Here’s an admittedly poor quality video of Sam Romijn’s audition for this season of Canadian Idol. Why is he so great??? Because he is sooooo Canadian! I think he’s immensely talented and unique. Just great!

Canadian Idol Auditions – Day 1

Canadian Idol Auditions – Day 1

Part 1 of the Canadian Idol auditions were last night and I wanted to live-blog but we had the most massive storm here in Calgary and we lost power. So… there really were not a huge number of really, really good contestants but there were certainly a few that made me sit up and pay attention. One guy, Tyler Mullendore was so awesome that I couldn’t believe he wasn’t already a star. He just had it all, for me.
Darn weather storm! It stopped my PVR from recording everything so I am so sorry that this post is terribly incomplete.

Canadian Idol Returns Today With Some Changes!

It’s June 5th which means that Canadian Idol returns to CTV!!! The season will start with 2 weeks of auditions followed by a two-night review “Top 200″ in week 3 which will, ultimately, leave us with this year’s Top 22.
There have been changes to this new season. The first change is the most interesting. This year, contestants will be allowed to audition and perform using instruments. The judges feel it will give them a better idea of what the contestants will sound like with music. Australian Idol has the same rules.
The other change …read more

Ben Mulroney Discusses Upcoming Canadian Idol Season

Canadian Idol host, Ben Mulroney, is letting everyone know how good this upcoming season is going to be.
“My producers are salivating when they think about this new season so that’s a good sign; it means they’ve got some really interesting plans for who’s coming in. And just having watched the auditions and seen our Top 100 – this is a polished group, it’s the most multicultural group we’ve ever had, it’s the most representative of the country from coast to coast. I really have high, high hopes that this is going to be a great season.”
