From the people they’ve got involved with the special show they’re going to have in a couple of weeks on April 24th, and the sponsors they’ve already got lined up to sponsor the number of incoming phone calls, I think this relief effort is going to raise a couple of million dollars at least!

The focus of American Idol Gives Back is to raise awareness of poverty and it’s impact on children in the United States and in Africa. The two day event will entail the following:

• Tuesday April 24, your vote will count more than ever. Each time you call, sponsors will make a donation to Charity Projects Entertainment Fund to help children and young people in America and Africa.
• Wednesday April 25, a very special results show will feature a star-studded extravaganza of celebrity artists performing at both the American Idol stage and prestigious Disney Hall, including: Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Helena Bonham Carter, Forest Whitaker, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Mr. Bean – Rowan Atkinson, and Daniel Radcliffe from “Harry Potter!”

Do you realize it more stars and celebrities got involved like this and put their money where their mouth is, the efforts of Hollywood and professional sports teams could probably eliminate a significant portion of many of the problems that are not solved purely because of effort and money.

I applaud American Idol and its producers for trying to impact change in our world by using their clout and popularity to do something really good.

If you have a child that’s between the ages of 12 and 15 and has any type of interest in vocal performance or becoming the next American Idol, you can send them away to summer camp now that’s focused on all things Idol.

I probably should have clarified that you need to have a child between 12 and 15 and a little cash in your pocket to send them away for only 8 days. Scholarships are available though for those that may qualify.

Tuition is $2900. The tuition fee includes camp registration, all programs of instruction, accommodation and meals, t-shirt and cap and transportation to and from the Idol Camp Campus to Bradley International Airport. The tuition does not include optional medical insurance, transportation from your home to Bradley International Airport and other expenses relating to attendance of Idol Camp such as the cost of mandatory medical exams.

While there, your child prodigy can attend classes on: singing, dancing, acting, writing, auditioning, instrumental music, music video production, show production.

There are four different session dates available:

1. July 7-16, 2007
2. July 21-30, 2007
3. August 4-13, 2007
4. August 18-27, 2007
