Idol Stalker

The Post Show Post - April 17, 2007

by Jeanne on April 17th, 2007

It’s that time again! We’ve watched another set of performances and all I have to say is - I Love Country Week! Not only do I kinda like the music but I feel that it’s a real make-it-or-break-it night for the Idol contestants. There’s usually some surprises and tonight was no exception. Here’s my take on the performances.

The Best

phil-stacey-01-2007-04-17

Yes, I am surprised too. I am not a big fan of Phil Stacey’s but in the beginning of the competition I thought he was pretty good. Tonight, he finally sounded like the guy I felt had potential. He sang “Where the Blacktop Ends” and it was effortless, convincing and a definite comeback!

melinda-doolittle-01-2007-04-17

Melinda Doolittle actually looked her age tonight. I find that she often looks like a middle-aged soccer mom or something but tonight, with her Eva Longoria hair, she was great. Her song choice “Trouble is a Woman” was perfect and she made it work. For this, she ties with Phil for the best tonight.

The Worst

Sanjaya Malakar sang my favorite Bonnie Raitt song, “Something To Talk About” and he did not do well. Oh, how I have defended Sanjaya but tonight, he was so terrible that I am not sure it is forgiveable. I’m so sorry, I still like him but this was the worst!

The Rest

Lakisha Jones was almost terrible tonight. I like her and she was rocking those gold boots but the girl yelled the heck out of Carrie Underwood’s beautiful, poignant, delicate song, “Jesus Take the Wheel.” It was so loud and forced that I had to actually turn down the volume. It was not the best song for her. Maybe she should have sang “Something to Talk About” instead of Sanjaya.

blake-lewis-01-2007-04-17

Blake Lewis sang, “When the Stars Go Blue” and it was okay. The great thing was that he still sounded like himself and I like that about him. The unfortunate thing is that he did not dazzle me. He looked adorable, though.

chris-richardson-01-2007-04-10

Chris Richardson sang “Mayberry” and, although the first half of the song sounded pretty good, he seemed to get lost in the middle and the second half was pretty lifeless. I don’t know what to think of Chris anymore, to tell you the truth.

jordin-sparks-01-2007-04-17

I saved my commentary of Jordin Spark’s performance for last because I know it will probably be unpopular. She sang, “Broken Wing” and she did a decent job. I even liked parts of it. The problem I have, again, is with her vibrato - it is so annoying. It sounds like she is singing with a fan in front of her mouth (I’m sure most of you have done that). Teach her to control it, and I might like her.
