What Do You Think About Kelly Clarkson’s Elle Magazine Cover?

by Jeanne on June 21st, 2007

kelly clarkson elle magazine cover 2007American Idol’s, Kelly Clarkson, was recently on the cover of Elle magazine and it has caused an uproar. I’m surprised that some of my more vocal readers did not say anything back when I first published this picture.

The allegations are that Kelly is heavily photoshopped (duh) in order to look thinner.

What do you guys think about this? Did Elle magazine go too far? I am inclined to think that if they didn’t like Kelly the way she was, why did they agree to put her on the cover? I wonder how she felt about how they made her look. I think that when mags do this kind of editing it can really affect someone’s self-esteem and it also sends the message that only thin people are beautiful.

Am I being too critical?

OMG!!! WTH!!! I can’t believe they did that. She is so beautiful already. Why would they want to change her appearaqnce. No wonder so many young girls suffer from eating disorders.

I know, Holly. Isn’t it disgusting??? I mean, if they really wanted to photoshop at least they could have made it realistic. She looks like her head’s been stuck on one of the Olsen twins’ bodies!

they did a good job in photoshopping; but the point is, that’s no longer kelly… they should’ve just posted a close-up look from the face to the shoulders… ugh… whatever… but i’m still getting a copy…

They did do an excellent job photoshopping, but if they were “uncomfortable’ with her size why didn’t they just do a nice close up face shot like Entertainment Weekly did with their cover of her?? I’ll still most likely buy a copy, but i wish they would’ve left her how she truly is.

I agree with all your comments. Plus, she looks very pale. Whats up with that??

Holly - you have a really good point! I would have enjoyed a nice close-up rather than this.

Gerri - I hadn’t even noticed but she does look a little sickly. What is up there?

I would disagree. While it certainly has some touchup going on, I think it is the angle. She tends to look heavy straight on, but not really from the side. Here, she has the high bow giving her an elongated mid section, unexpected cleavage that drops, again lengthening her look. As well, it seems to me that her hips are at least as wide as her shoulders in the photo.

You know, I’m sory if this hurts, but there is a lot of ground between too thin and too heavy. She could tone up a bit and still not betray those of you who celebrate her size. As well, she can (and has) looked very attractive thinner, but never so thin that you feel she has sold out. Why is it that fit, healthy, smart eaters get the heat…go after the fashion industry with their 12-yr old boy look.
