Why is Archuleta Homeschooling A Big Deal?

by Jeanne on June 20th, 2008

david-archuleta-nc I’m trying to stay away from all of the nonsense surrounding David Archuleta (I mean, how many times can you talk about the exact same issue again and again?) but I had to say something about this.

Season seven’s American Idol runner-up had to drop out of regular classes during the show since (duh!) he couldn’t exactly attend classes and compete.  So, now that he has committed to the Idol tour and has a recording contract, he hasn’t registered to attend high school in his hometown of Murray, Utah.  The commonly held assumption is that David will go on to homeschool since (again, duh!) he can’t exactly go to school in Utah and travel across the country.

Why is this making headlines (and, yes, I can appreciate the irony of my article adding to the headlines, lol)?  It’s not exactly unusual for singers/actors to have tutors instead of attending regular classes and, at least in my area, homeschooling is becoming more and more popular.

What is the big deal with this kid anyway?  I can’t help but feel like everything about his life is super exaggerated by the media.  Is it just me or is all Archie news just blown way out of proportion?

I don’t understand why this is a big deal either. So he will homeschool. So do a large number of other kids in this country… including mine. :)

I think they try to make a big deal out of it because they want everyone to think his father is controlling his life !! He’s going to have alot of demands on his life now, and it would be hard for him to continue on in Public School.

Yeah exactly. I don’t know why every little bit of news has to be blown out of proportion. I mean, really. People don’t give it a rest, do they?

wow, i mean this kid has major talent. and i love him to death, but jeez the media is going crazy with stories that really are like not exciting or important news. i mean, i’d wanna be homeschooled too. it’d be too crazy after the experience and how can you go on tour if you have to be at school in utah everyday? so give the kid a break! (iloveyou,archie<3)

Yeah the media is really just trying to blow up the whole “controling father” thing. I mean yes his dad may seem to be a little controling but I really don’t think that Home schooling is a big deal, I mean I’m sure when Dakota Fanning is working ona movie, she is home schooled…It’s just the media now -a -days love to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
