All you have to do is leave me a comment (with a valid email address so that I can contact you if you win) memorex karaokeabout why you love the performing arts, American Idol or the original Fame television series/movie!  Pretty easy right?

Here’s what you could win!

  • A Memorex MKS-SS1 SingStand Home Karaoke System that allows you to sing along to music from your iPod or any MP3 device with a headphone jack.  Dual microphone inputs mean that you can sing a duet (only one microphone comes with the system so you’d have to buy a second one) and the keyboard input allows you to play along to your favorite songs!  Pretty cool!
  • One copy of the soundtrack from the new Fame film.  I have heard a preview and I think it’s great!
  • One copy of the original Fame movie starring Irene Cara, Eddie Barth and Laura Dean.

Our contest ends on September 18, 2009 at 11:59pm PST so get those comments in right away!

Without the performing arts, the world would be all numbers and pictures. The rhythms of the world allow us all to dance to the beat of our own drummer and without that freedom, the world would be a very unhappy place. Hopefully this season of Idol will bring new talent and great competition… I can hardly wait!

  2. Leann S says:

We love American Idol because it’s so much fun to pick a favorite singer and root them on. We will miss Paula though. She was hilarious, but also seemed to have a big heart.

  4. denice p says:

i love the performing arts because it takes so much skill and dedication to get up and perform. I’m envious that they can show the people a different side of life. performing art expands to me, makes a person more well rounded! thanks!

  5. Bambi M says:

I grew up with Fame and it’s always a happy memory of my childhood. I’d sing along to all the songs and try to learn all the dances! It’s hard to believe it was released nearly 30 years ago!

The first play I was in was in high school. My friend Judy was in drama club and she convinced me to try out. As I read the lines, I could feel my knees knocking and my voice shaking. The teacher/director said that I could be an extra, which was fine by me. It was a way to be involved and not have to say anything. Well, the rehearsal period was long, and several people dropped out, and guess who ended up with not just one part, but two combined parts! To my surprise, I wasn’t a nervous wreck on opening night. I knew what I was supposed to say and do, and while I had butterflies in my stomach, my knees weren’t knocking! I went on to major in Theatre Arts, and I still love performing. I now have confidence when speaking before a group that I never had before. That’s what the performing arts did for me. As for the Fame TV series, I loved it! I had already gotten into theatre at that point, and the song and the lines spoken by Debbie Allen during the opening really spoke to me: “You got big dreams? You want fame? Well fame costs. And right here is where you start paying. In sweat.” I loved the whole cast.

  12. Sarah Hirsch says:

  13. Ed Nemmers says:

I adored “Fame” because the songs were natural and organic to the show, much like “Glee”, in that no one “just starts singing”.

  30. susan smoaks says:

i love american idol i have been watching it since kelly clarkson. i love to see someone come up from nothing and win it all!

  31. I have been in the performing arts business for 25 years as a stagehand. It’s not just a business, it’s a way of life. If you don’t love it you can’t survive it. Interesting note in that I worked on the original production of Fame the Musical. Six weeks of rewrites but a really fun cast including a very young Harold Perrineau (Lost, Oz). It will be interesting to see how the new movie holds up.

  32. Miranda Allen says:

    this is so neat

  33. Megan Stiller says:

I was always in drama class, chorus class and all the art classes growing up. Now working two full time jobs and out of college I have no time for even doing a painting or going to kareoke night at a bar :(

I would LOVE to be able to rock out in my own living room, even if it’s just an hour between the two jobs. My girlfriends would love it as well!!!

I need something fun in my life, and I was always happy singing/painting/performing!

    meganlouise18(at)gmail(dot)com

  34. hector meza says:

I love the arts because they let me express my self!

  35. Geoff K says:

I love the performing arts because, whether you’re a performer or a spectator, they allow you to escape reality temporarily and get lost in the joy of creating or witnessing something that’s a perfect marriage of skill and practice, and when hours of work pay off with a great performance, there’s no better feeling! I think that’s captured perfectly by the original “Fame” – the desperate yearning for the student’s to prove themselves and let out their creative instincts – and it looks like the remake of the film has this as a central theme, too!

  36. Kate says:

i love Fame because all the music is catchy! I am so into music, it is a big part of my life, and I definitely love Fame for its nostaligic value.

  37. Jasper Juilfs says:

This is one of my favorite movies! I still have the original but would love to have this new copy. Thanks for the chance to win it.

My Niece is getting her masters in Music at UTEP, and have always followed her performances. Music is a very important part of all cultures, bringing people from all over , together even if only for a few hrs. Music, Dance, and the Art of Film should be an integral part of everybodys lives.
